For the longest time, I wanted to be a marine biologist or some sort of biologist that dealt with animals. Recently, I have changed my mind and decided to opt for pharmaceutical studies. Of course, this involves chemistry and I am currently in biology. It is too late to switch out of my biology class, and I do love biology, but does anyone have any advice for studying chemistry on the side. Chemistry is one of my weakest subjects but I need to make it into one of my strongest. I know I have the dedication to do it, so... any advice on what to study?

Jus to clarify, I'm a full IB student (Diploma), but I've been debating lately whether I would benefit from dropping to partial IB (Certificate) or not. I'm currently in my last year, and I take Geography, History and English HLs and Math and Biology SLs. I hate hate hate Bio, and while Math is okay it does take up a lot of my time. I would rather concentrate more on my HLs instead of working my ass off to get a good mark in a Math test or sitting through two hours of tedious Bio class. I thought about dropping Bio and Math and only sticking with my HLs (plus Portuguese SL, which is self-taught and quite enjoyable). I talked to some people who had dropped from full to par…

Hi, i was wondering weather applying for specific courses makes it easier to get into a university. Suppose i want to study pure mathematics, now not many people study this so competition in this field will be lower than usual. So is it that if i apply for pure math to a university like Brown which is more popular in economics, does that make it easier for me to get in? I am not planning to change my major later or anything i really want to do pure math. I mean universities have to accept people like that, math professors cant be teaching the benches. So, will it be easier for me to get in if i apply for pure math?

Hi Guys! I just wanted other people's opinion on my less-than-desirable situation. I recently took the American SAT exam in October of this year... I got a horrible grade.. 1600 I haven't seen my predicted grades... But i was wondering: what are my chances that with my really good curriculum, being an IB student (in general) and having good grades (not the best) but bad SAT score... will that get my into American Universities or even British Universities? Thanks guys P.s. Is everybody else allowed to see their predicted grades? My school doesn't let me see them.

Ok so I take a great interest in Journalism, Hunter S Thompson is my hero. I plan to pursue his route but I need to find a good university to motivate me to study harder. It doesn't matter what country this university is in as long as its not anywhere dark and cold and rainy... like England. I believe inspiration comes a great deal from the environment ur set in. Does anyone have any suggestions for any good universities around the world for a good education on Journalism?? I need to apply soon so any help would be much appreciated.. Thanks PS dont have anything against England, just that i've been living in a dark cold and rainy place all my life, need a change.

So I am an IB student and i have taken PCM HL and Hindi, english and business SL. My overall in the 3rd semister was 35 but i got 777 in HLs and a 446 in SLs. 44 being in the two languages. My councellor has recommended me to write to the universities thorough common app that i have a linguistics problem and she said that she will also mention it in her recommendation. I have got 4s in Hindi in all 3 semisters and my english grades in order are 6-5-4, even in IGCSE the only Bs i got were in english and french. I would like to know if writing about this would have any impact on the way universities evaluate me, since the rest of my grades are pretty good. One more thing is…

I just started the IB diploma program. The courses I'm taking right now are bio hl, math hl, history hl, english sl, japanese sl, and chemistry sl. I heard that you need chem HL to get into med schools in the UK or anywhere? does this really matter? do I really need to take chemistry outside of school? take a sat subject test? or can I just focus on the subjects I have right now and get into med school? Hey forum! I'm starting to think about college applications. I realize that its not really worth going to an American Uni from Canada, since Canadian schools are just as good and cheaper. I was thinking McGill, maybe neuroscience (at least a 41/45). I know Canada has a tough medical system for foreign doctors. If however, I decide to go straight to a medical undergrad school say in London, would this have the same credentials in Canada, or would I have to retake a whole bunch of courses and exams? It's a technical question, I know, but any advice would be appreciated.

Hello, I have noticed that several universities in the Netherlands offer bachelor programmes in English and I am particularly interested in Utrecht University (that's a good uni, right?) The thing is, I know nothing about the Dutch system, the application procedures or university rankings... so if you have any knowledge or personal experience please tell me how it works Are Dutch universities at the same level as the top-10 UK universities?

Hey everyone, So I'm sort of interested in the possibility of studying in France, because I love learning the language and would hope to continue it, whether studying there or just taking lessons or whatever. My question is: How hard would it be to study at a French University having only done French B in IB? Would the level of French be far too hard? Are classes taught at all in English, or how does it work with international students? Thanks for any responses!

Felt like starting a pretty general topic, just wanted to see how everyone felt about IB. I would be really interested in hearing how people who are done with IB feel about it, and whether or not it helped them in college. Feel free to post just your feelings in general though.

I am going to apply to university and they require "original transcripts or certified copies of the original transcript (stamped and signed by the issuing school)" for my application. I do not want to send my original IB diploma (obviously) so what do I send them? What do they mean with a "certified copy"? Is a normal photocopy of the diploma not enough?

Hi there, I have a British passport, a house in the UK, and my permanent residence is in the UK, but I've been studing overseas (Asia) for about 4 years now and I will finish my IB overseas. I'm currently here on my parents' work visas, but as I turn 18 soon, I will have to apply for a student visa so I can finish school here. Can I still apply as a home student? I don't want to get disqulified from all of my UK unis, but it is just so much cheaper + you can only take out a student loan if you are a home student. Anyone else in a similar situation? Thanks!

Halo everyone, I am a student studying IB in Hong Kong. I was planning to apply for Peking University in China and this is my last year learning IB. I have done some research on http://www.oir.pku.edu.cn/en/ The website doesn't mention about International Baccalaureate. So I am quite wondering....whether Peking University accepts IB score or not. And if they do accept, how and when shall I apply? After the mock exam in 2012.1 or after the final exam in 2012.5 ? P.S. I want to apply for the Department of Chinese Language and Literature.

Hi fellow IBers! I'm a Swedish IB Diploma Student, just started IB2 and heading for May 2012 exams! When it comes to universities I'm looking mostly at schools directly, and not in a specific region/country/continent, which leaves me with a sort of wide array options so far: University of Lund - Sweden Copenhagen Business School - Denmark St. Andrews - Scotland Edinburgh - Scotland Georgetown University - Washington D.C., the U.S. What I want to study is something along the lines of International Relations (and Economics) - or as in the case of Georgetown it is their program of Science of Foreign Service (which really would be my dream thing to study). Finally, here com…

I'm currently in grade 11. I have 3 7s for Bio chem HL and math SL, a 6 for Chinese A2 SL. But my english A1 is a 5 and B&M HL dropped from a 6 last semester to 4 this semester because of format issues.... For english, 5 is the highest in the class. its one of those subjects that no one can get good marks for until the exam semester since the teacher says that our skills are progressive.... For B&M, it was format issues..... he said i needed to have everything under the right headings for this assignment.... so Harvard is my dream. I really really love Harvard because of many reasons My SAT is 2250 and have a great load of ECs Do you think that 4 in B&M…

This topic is mostly for those who are familiar to Rotary exchanges. I live in Mexico, the way IB works here is quite different from other countries. IB is supposed to last 2 years. However, for law preuniversitary education must last 3 years here in Mexico, and IB is not the exception, so what most of schools do is a strange trick consisting in teaching the subjects from the first year, through the second year, and reviewing them in the last one. Even though we don't get signed up in IB until we are in the second year (the official first year of IB). They pick the subjects they are going to teach us, as well as the exams we are going to apply in higher level. I am now on …

I've loved history since I was very, very young. Medieval History, particularly, and that's why I decided to major in that specific historical period. I plan to apply to universities in the UK (most likely Scotland) and although few offer Medieval History as a major I've managed to find the few that do. I know it's not a career-oriented course like Medicine or Law, but it's something I'm passionate about. Also, I plan to double major in Medieval History and Journalism, and one day to publish my own historical fiction books (: Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knows what UK universities are looking for in the personal statements of people applying for Medieval History…

Do YOU know of ANY IB school in the WORLD that does their exams (or retakes) in November 2011? I talked to the guidance councler and the IB-coordinator at my school but all the information I got from them was that the november exams vary between schools every year and that it is most likely to find them in England...but I have no idea:s This is a very pressing issue for me so I am VERY grateful for any answer or light that you can shed on this matter! Let me correct that: I would be ETERNALLY grateful!! "Puss och kram!" from Sweden

Hey guys, this is the question I got for my homework and I'm kind of unsure how to further expand on that. Please help ? I put in my answer as well, so far. Feel free to point out any errors I've made ! 1. Explain which is likely to be higher in a Less Developed Country, Gross National Product or Gross Domestic Product. GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is the value of the total worth of a country. It can be measured by calculating the sum of the country’s production and services over a period of time. GNP (Gross National Product) is the gross domestic product plus the total capital gains from foreign investment - income earned by foreign nationals domestically. Through GNP, a…

Hi! I came to the conclusions a month ago that I want to work in the Games Industry but I'm not sure what... I know I would love to be an animator but I never took art, although I do love drawing I never had the proper training. I thought about Level Designing/Building or something close. Do you know of any good, not too expensive universities in the UK, US or Australia that teach Game courses? Also, do you think I still have a chance to become an animator even without any training in art? Do you know if there are any foundation courses etc. in art that I can take so I will be able to study it? It would really be something I want to do! Thanks in advance! Cheerio

I have passed my IB diploma with maths and physics at SL and chemistry at HL. I want to get admitted to electronics and telecommunications engineering, but am facing problems obtaining the eligibility certificate. I'm finishing up my first year of IB this term and have taken psychology SL for the last 8 months. Thing is: our teacher was really bad and didn't go through anything with us, he then had a breakdown and left our class before Easter this term. Now we have a really good substitute, but the chances of him staying are small and if the old teacher comes back I'm so screwed. If he doesn't then nobody knows what will happen. I have done the boring part in psych and the fun is yet to come, but is it worth the risk? My thought is to change to Spanish Ab Initio (for beginners), but then I will be one year behind the others. I read spanish for 4 years, then 2 years passed and here …

Hello everyone I've started to seek universities of my interest. It's obvious that all UK's universities require certain grades from the IB (i.e. 7, 7, 6 in HL subjects), so this has led me to a question: is it possible to enter Uni the same year you finished IB? Or do you have to wait for your IB diploma/grades and THEN start the application process? And what about US universities? Thanks in advance

So I have started investigating Unis in the USA, UK, Canada, Europe, etc. I have to say, I'm very confused at the moment and I would like someone to clear it up for me. At first I thought that only UK universities required specific iB courses depending on the course you want to enroll (i.e. you need physics HL and math HL to enter mechanical engineering, or you need bio HL and chem HL for medicine, etc.) Unfortunately, my school offers few IB subjects, so I (being a person who is interested in a science-related career) had to choose History, English, Math, and Spanish HL (yep, 4 HLs, knowing that they will not care about Spanish since it is my first language) Anyway, I'…

I'm about to enter the IB diploma, my school only offers 2 subjects for group 3 (individuals and societies) which are History HL and Business & Management HL I like them both and I don't care about which one is more difficult, my career will be in the sciences (probably engineering) so none of these two will help much. So my decision will be entirely based on which of these two subjects do US universities respect the most (I know that Business is a soft subject in the UK, what about the US?)

I'm currently taking IB Diploma now, and still unsure of where to go. The stress is taking its toll on me, and I haven't even got a long-term CAS project yet, and there's only seven more months to go before graduating. So, the thought of dropping to IB Certificate came to mind, but I'm afraid that it's practically useless for university applications. All of the unis in Australia only accepts Diploma, and the same goes for Singapore and other IB supporting schools. What is the use of IB Certificate, exactly, and is there a way to get into a university with it? I'm planning to take communications as a major, and you don't need much for that, so the Diploma serves as only …

Hey! In my desperate quest to find an alternative route into medicine, besides my IB final grade (which was not sufficient for most universities that I applied to ) I found out that, at some universities in the UK, one can apply to a medicine programme as a "graduate applicant". Meaning that you start by taking a degree in a RELATED field (such as: Biochemistry, physiotherapy, pharmacology etc.) and then apply to medicine. It is preferred that one completes the degree, however in some cases it is possible to switch to medicine after only the first stage of the degree. My question to you is: When applying to medicine as a graduate applicant, regardless of degree, what…

Hello everyone, this is my first post here. In one of the areas of my school's IB program, I have to decide whether to study Business & Management HL, or History HL. I find both topics incredibly interesting, it's a shame I have to choose one.
