Hello world, For those of you who have read this book, I have a small question(s) regarding the numerous letters that Angela Vicario sends to Bayardo San Roman after he returns her. What is the purpose of these letters, and why does she start sending letters to him? And what made Angela start to love Bayardo? I thought she didn't like him in the beginning, so why does she change her mind?

This is my current thesis for my WA: Tereza’s dreams are a journey from nightmare to resolution that allows her to reflect on her choices and accept her disposition towards heaviness. I'm solid on most of my paragraphs, but I'm really struggling to figure out how to approach my second paragraph. The topic sentence is: The dreams lead Tereza to come to terms with her disposition towards heaviness. I was thinking I could maybe go chronologically and start with when she isn't okay with her disposition towards heaviness and go from there. Does that sound reasonable? EDIT: I'm so sorry, being half asleep I wrote WL at the top but I actually mean WA

My partner and I are very, very creative people when it comes to projects. We have so many ideas floating through our brains. It is a blessing, but also a curse since we cannot decide on which idea to use. Our topic is Language and Archetypes. 1) Hollywood News- breakdown of characters 2) Movie roll castings. Re-do Oedipus with modern famous people 3) Act out different tragic flaw types and have class guess If anyone has ideas or has a site I can check out, please help!!!

Hey ladybugs! I have a rationale due soon, and the thing is that my teacher didn't thoroughly explain even what a WT1 is. Based on, what I "learned" and read off the internet, I chose to analyze Obamas inaugural speech in 2008. My question is that do I have to write a response to the speech as a republican, or imitate obamas way of doing speeches? Oh, and one more thing, should I do an opinionated article instead? Or is my speech good?

Hey! I have received back my Paper 1 with mark and comments! As for my teacher not being able to explain my "grammar" mistakes due to lack of time, I want someone who is native in English, has English A HL (receiving good marks), to go through my Paper 1 and tell me what the grammar mistakes are. I can only understand couple of my mistakes, and I seek to improve my grammar for my next assignment in English. The attached Paper 1 will be sent over PM. Have a nice weekend, folks!

Hey! So, I recently wrote my Spanish B written assignment on 'Bodas de Sangre' (Blood Wedding). We're reading the same book in English A, although in translation. Can I still write about Blood Wedding for my English A written assignment, or is there a rule saying I can't use the same book?

Im doing my IOP on 1984, the rewriting of history, more specifically focusing on Winstons Job, Down the memory hole and Big Brothers image. Like what inspired them and how they are portrayed through the novel. Here is a section of my IOP, the beginning. I was just wondering am i on the right track? Like is this kinda what we are suppose to do? Analyse the text in an oral form while making it interesting right? Btw im pretending to be Orwell and putting on an english accent to meet criteria B In my younger years, I fought in the Spanish Civil War. There, I was introduced to English Socialism and had subsequently turned left-wing. Even though those bloody anarc…

Is it easier to relate the IB questions in Paper 2 to texts (the 2 novels read in the class) or Poetry (several of them are done in the class)? I need to make a decision because our new teacher wants to do poetry (my classmates agreed), however, we did the two texts in the first year of IB with our previous teacher. I just feel like there are more to talk on texts. (I don't know). Shall I go with the poetry? I just can't focus thinking of the wastage of time we did in analyzing those two texts!! PS. I do SL English (Langlit.) Thanks

Out of curiosity, just to see the range of possible text choices, could you post your prescribed text choices for Paper 2 / Lit in Translation / IOC / IOP (as many as you can remember) and perhaps give a commentary on how feasible these are in your opinion? Thanks a lot!

Short intro: 10th grader, planning on doing HL: Math, Physics, English A Course ; SL: German A LangLit, Economics, Chemistry My question: What exactly is the difference between the 'Literature' and the 'Language and Literature' courses? (Especially in English A). I understood that the 'Literature' course is very literature focused (and analysing, etc.) but then what exactly do you do in the language and literature course? I looked at the each syllabus but still did not quite understand what exactly the difference is... Thanks for replies

Hi, I'm unsure as to which one to choose. I'm only starting the IB next year, but the earlier I make my subject choices, the better. I'm going to take the IB because I'm hoping to study English at one of the top universities in England, ideally Oxbridge, so I was wondering which one would prepare me better.

So im going to have my first formative assessment for my school (exam week) and i would like to ask a question (sorry if it sounds stupid, first time posting here) : For paper 1 , should i choose the two passages that our school did with us (Catcher in the rye & metamorphosis) for commentary or should i choose the unseen poem. Which one is more recommended and easier to revise/write for? Thanks so much in advance.

Hey! I have to do a IOP in literature (2 weeks left) and I am freaking out, because I have no idea what kind of topic should I choose. I was thinking about doing my IOP about poems, but I'm not really sure how should I analyse them. Or would it be too hard to analyse poems? I'd be really happy, if someone could help me out!

I am currently searching for a research question for my EE, the topic so far being "food in literature", which is extremely broad. My supervisor told me to find one to two books that I can write a lot about food on, whether it's symbolism or cultural significance or something like that. I think it might be nice doing it on literary works in different original languages, and I might know some in Chinese, but I'm just extremely unsure about this whole thing now. What are some books related to food, and what kind of research question might I be able to form?

In my English Lit. Class, our teacher assigned us a "baby IOP" five minutes long to help prep us for our real IOP next year. I'm doing mine on "The Great Gatsby". Since I'm a really theatrical person I wanted to do something that would involve more performance than presentation. I was thinking of doing a monologue as one of the characters from the novel and then analyzing it but I feel our time limit is much too short to allow for that. What I have chosen to do is to perform a colour poem that analyzes each use of the word "gold" in "The Great Gatsby", which was actually pretty prevalent. So, I would give a state of intent first, describing what the poem I'll b…

Hi I'm student who has done quite decently on my studies on Pre-DP, with best grade on mathematics and chemistry and second best on physics. However I find myself severely struggling on literature and also history and social studies, but especially literature. Problem is I'm not very motivated on them. I just can't bring myself to read something totally irrelevant which is not likely to benefit me any way. It's some deep-coded attitude of mine and as such pretty irrational. I dislike when something is not exact, and those things are also very uncomfortable to me. With history my problem is also motivation although it's not that bad and my history grades have been de…

Hi everyone:)! I am in 11th grade and have started the ib programme recently. My high levels are english lit, economics and biology, my standard levels are chinese lit and lang, history and mathematics. The main thing is that I am chinese and i consider myself more fluent in chinese than english(in speaking), however i have been doing bilingual courses all my life. For my IGCSEs i scored A* in eng lit and B in eng lang. I am hoping to apply to a British university...but I think I will only be able to score a mediocre score like 4 if i proceed with eng lit HL.Do British uni consider the actual grades you achieve more significantly or the subjects you choose? Hi everyone, my IOP is in a couple of days and I am eager to get a good mark. However I don't fully understand how to hit the top mark bands in Crtierion A: Knowledge and understanding of the work(s). To get in the 9-10 mark band, it states that a "very good knowledge and understanding of most of the implications of the text" is necessary. What exactly is meant by implications, in relation to the IOP? How would I go about demonstrating a knowledge of them? Thank you!

So, the English exams are coming, how are you, or how did you memorize quotes for the exam? I've tried reading through my materials a few times and tried taking down notes, but when I write them down, I sometimes get the wording wrong, in that event, would you be pennalized if you quoted wrong words in the exam?

Hey guys, I'm starting to plan on my Written Task 1 for English (that is, creative piece) and am considering taking 1984. Our teacher sort-of advised us to do a diary entry on some character, preferably other than Winston. Now, while I really like the idea in terms of character analysis and relating the piece to the book, I'm not sure how much sense it would make for anyone of them to write it, regarding the entire system as depicted. Any thoughts on this? Comments would be very helpful. Thanks.

Hey, guys! So as a second year IB student, I've started my work on the Extended Essay and have chosen to do it in English A1, as it's my favourite subject by a mile. After reading ''Rime of the Ancient Mariner'' in class, I was deeply intrigued with the poem and went on analyzing it for weeks, both in preperation of the oral exams and because the ballad struck me with its remarkable complexity. In my research, I found something very interesting about the poem, that being the alchemical thought both in Coleridge's own style of writing and noticably in some of the pieces he created. Interested even futher in this, I took apart Mariner in search of something to further this …

Hi everyone, in our English class we have just done an interactive oral and we are now asked to write a reflective statement to answer the question "how was your understanding of cultural and contextual considerations of the work developed through the interactive oral?" I don't quite understand the question and it would be greatly appreciated if anyone could explain to me what the question is asking and what I am supposed to write about. What is the "cultural and contextual considerations" referring to? Is it talking about the author's consideration of including all those cultural and contextual elements into his/ her work? Is it asking for the reason why the author has d…
