Neeliegya Posted November 26, 2014 Report Share Posted November 26, 2014 I am currently searching for a research question for my EE, the topic so far being "food in literature", which is extremely broad. My supervisor told me to find one to two books that I can write a lot about food on, whether it's symbolism or cultural significance or something like that. I think it might be nice doing it on literary works in different original languages, and I might know some in Chinese, but I'm just extremely unsure about this whole thing now. I mean the Famous Five eat a lot, if thats the kind of thing you are looking at....... But I'm not really sure what you mean.... By food I just mean anything edible that has some sort of significance in a literary work. Preferably not cookbooks, since I don't think I am capable of making an in depth analysis of meanings in the ingredients of a recipe....Or can I? lucettafetta Posted November 26, 2014 Report Share Posted November 26, 2014 "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe has some interesting cultural aspects regarding food - the foods you eat to be respectful, or in formal situations etc. It isn't about food but there is quite a lot of references to food throughout.
