How much of the oral activities count for our final grade? 30 percent? And is there an individual presentation AND some kind of interactive activity? Because we don't seem to be doing any interactive activities??? Our french teacher just gave us one individual presentation and made it count for 30 percent of our mock grade

So I have already done a few orals (A1, B and Ab initio). All of them were quite easy do deal with. The talking part was simple, no nervousness, etc. But i really do not like how our german teacher is grading our orals. i even asked her to let me download the oral to my computer and i listened it over a few times. i made two grammatical mistakes, but the whole speech was quite fluent and my answers to her questions were ok (this is where i made those two mistakes). so my question is, how fluent and complex does your ab initio oral have to be? should my speech really be perfectly fluent and without a single gramatical mistake in order to get 28+? what about your ab initio…

Hello, Would like to hear about good revision websites for this subject. My "teacher" is at teacher's college for the year and will only be able to teach Spanish once a week in evening sessions (i.e. 7-9 PM). Yes, that's right, once a week - not much in-school teaching, if any. Whether or not that violates IB protocol or my own rights in which my parents entitle hundreds of dollars to the school for me to partake in IB, you tell me? To the point, please recommend useful/concise revision sites for Spanish ab initio. It's clear a lot of this work will have to be self-conducted. Just getting ahead of time, staying organised, etc. Thanks.

Okay so basically the Oral Presentation is coming up, and I am really really messed up because my teacher does not explain anything and then gets angry when we ask questions. I am doing my IOP on a Pablo Neruda poem, and it's probably going to be an Oral Expose. I understand that one of the options would be "the setting of a particular writer’s work against another body of material, such as details on social background or political views". Thus, would a good presentation basically include background information about the allusions in the poem that reference events that were happening around the world and in Neruda's life? How can I make such a presentation more analytic…

Well, since I've gotten relatively good at analizing poems I figured I'd do my IOP on him, so far I'm understanding everything I need to get it done. But now that I actually sat down to start working it out, the teacher decided it would be funny to give us this poem to analyze... I really have very little on this poem other than the superficial stuff. If anyone has any fun things to say about this poem I'd more than appreciate it (I attached that IB guide for poems in the "nothing gold can stay" thread for anyone to see) Here it is ...I know, it's long. MARY sat musing on the lamp-flame at the table Waiting for Warren. When she heard his step, She ran on tip-to…

I have to do a full analysis using The "Lucky Seven" Guide to Annotation on this poem, but its so short that I dont understand...So if you someone could please comment on the: 1. title 2. tone 3. language (diction and syntax) 4. tensions and contrasts (something vs. something else) 5. symbols 6. rhyme scheme 7. FINAL INTERPRETATION OF THE POEM I know that alot of you like english so I would really appreciate it if you could get me some ideas Poem: Nature's first green is gold Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf's a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay.

I take English A1 at HL, and I'm going to be doing my IOP (oral presentation) on a poem. Thing is, I'm not sure what I should be doing with regards to a poem - it seems awfully hard to develop an argument based on several lines of poetry. Do I say something along the lines of "Through the use of Device A, Device B and Device C, Pablo Neruda sets the tone of the poem to be anti-capitalism" as my thesis statement and then find evidence (would this be from Neruda's lifetime or only in the poem?) to support it? Sorry I'm just really confused and worried and my teacher is not really explaining things well.

hi I was wondering whether there's anyone around taking any classical language (latin, greek and that stuff). I took latin SL because it was compulsory in our non-IB school programme anyway, and since our teacher is really good I decided to take it as IB subject (the alternative would have been french... nothing against it, but our teacher has no idea about IB...) anyway, believe it or not, but as IB subject latin has turned out to be surprisingly easy... in a mock exam I got 45 out of 48 points

Starting IB next year, I face a dilemma between to choose English A1 SL or English B HL ( I think my school doesn't offer A2) and my coordinator "strongly" (more like forcefully) suggested me to choose English B HL because English isn't my Native language and I have studied in international school only 3 years prior to coming to Canada. I found myself having a bit of problem as I wanna do English A1 SL but obviously it's hard for me as it's not my first language considering I have to do another A1 (Thai) which mean 2 world lits and blah blah blah Anyway, i don't really care about the workload <<familliar myself with MYP 4 hours of hw a day. Only thing is that I a…

Has anyone read The Underground by Seamus Heaney? I am suppose to share some thoughts about it in class regarding literary devices, message, structure, etc... I'm having slight trouble understanding the poem itself. I think it refers to some sort of transportation system but that is a metaphor for love. Here is the poem. THE UNDERGROUND -Seamus Heaney There we were in the vaulted tunnel running, You in your going-away coat speeding ahead And me, me then like a fleet god gaining Upon you before you turned to a reed Or some new white flower japped with crimson As the coat flapped wild and button after button Sprang off and fell in a trail Between the Underground and the A…

This is my first post and I really don’t know if I’m doing this right. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could help me with Spanish. I will be in IB Spanish four this upcoming school year yet I can barely read and understand very little of what my teacher is saying. I have tried online help and even went out and bought the $130 CD-rom to learn Spanish fluently. Yeah.. DOESN’T WORK! I have a Cuban friend who has attempted to help me, however gave up on the third day. Quite sad actually. Can anyone help me?

Hi, I'm starting my World Lit Assignment 1 (which is about the 'setpiece' debates in Medea and Antigone, a comparison/analysis of them), but I'm not sure if other references (ie. research other than the 2 works) are required. My English teacher told me to just search through some Internet sites and write a draft based on what I already know. However, I've also been told that other references and books are required. I visited a university library and cast my eye around some other books, but there's nothing specifically relevant to my topic...so I'm worried whether or not I need a strong bibliography with lots of books...and that may be impossible. So I'd just like to know.…

Ok so I'm freaking out because I have to take the HL Spanish exam in 6 months. And here's the situation: I skipped from AP Spanish (like spanish 4) to Spanish 6. And my teacher for AP Spanish was so totally incompetent. What I learned in that class I could have gotten from watching Univision for 10 minutes....seriously. So does anybody have any suggestions for a quick way to learn 2 years worth of spanish in 6 months? I learn pretty quick. much thx!

So, I am writing a comparative on Life of Pi and Tuesdays With Morrie, with the focus being on the theme "What is true in one sphere of life is true in others..." I am about two thirds done, and my topics are A: complication, and character's responses to it...the fact that they resort to what was important in their past lives as well..B: Character development, and the fact that the lessons they learnt were ones that had to have been taught for either of them to enjoy life regardless of their circumstance, and C: Ritual... Now, I'm not sure how these are all fitting together, 'and it's a little bit sketchy so far... I'm mainly anxious about C and how I can tie it in to com…

Since our teachers aren't allowed to correct the I.O.'s I thought this is a good place to get them corrected anyways. I have my first I.O. on Friday next week and my work might need some correcting. Ok here it comes: C'était l'an 2000.

So, here's my story. I started the IB in August, and as you can see in my signature, I do English B as a group 2 subject. I'm anticipating this in May 2008. And then, to my question - would I be able to do French B from May and then do the exam along with my other exams? I've learnt French for 4 years, but my level would be like 2-3 years of learning. Do you think I would manage?

I've decided to do Assignment 2c, a detailed study, on an extract from Miss Julie. I'm not sure how long the extract is meant to be, though. I've been told 26 lines? If anyone's more sure than I am about how many lines, let me know. I'm doing mine on Miss Julie by August Strindberg, the scene where Jean chops off Miss Julie's bird's head just because it makes references to the story of John the Baptist, the bird is symbolic of Miss Julie, and it foreshadows Miss Julie's own suicide. Haha. I don't know, I'm confused. By the way, am I meant to follow the same criterion as paper 1? Any kind of help is appreciated, thanks.

Hey, I'm doing Swedish B SL, and we've already done several final exams (both P1&P2) as practice. I've usually gotten high marks, but I'm not sure about the mark boundaries, so someone wise tell me what they are! I'm assuming they're quite similar in all the B languages, so if you know them for any language, it would be helpful! The maximum points for P1, P2, and the orals are 30 points...

I'm finding myself not grasping a lot of concepts this year, as our teacher only explains things in French, and a lot of the time I can't understand what she is saying about the rules and what not. Right now I am having a lot of trouble with accords- we have a test tomorrow, and I was wondering if anybody would be willing to explain the rules to me... Additionally, I thought I understood passé composé, but I bombed that quiz as well. So, it is "j'ai, il a, elle a, tu as, ils ont, elles ont, nous avons, and vous avez" and etre for Dr. and Mrs. Vandertramp, with é, u, or whatever the proper ending is according to the verb group... Now, is another e added to the end of the v…

I promise, this is the last time I'll be bugging you guys about any sort of oral...my last oral, for french, is coming up soon and although I already have a topic (something on juvenile delinquency) I was wondering if you guys could suggest me a few other ideas. I onyl chose my current topic because I had to choose something - for some reason I can't seem to think of anything that would really interest me at the moment, so I'd be much obliged if you could think of something. Current/recent events would be great as well, e.g. NASA discovery, some global controversy, a united nations problem etc...yeah such events seem easy enough to remember but my brain doesn't seem to be…

So I think I'm moving (again) to Auckland. Thankfully I've found a school that does the exams in May 2008 instead of the usual November. They have all my subjects except Business & Man. which I've decided to self-study, as it is one of my best subjects anyway. So the question is about the A1 texts. Would I have much of a problem? I've done my world lit, final draft of which should be completed by the end of the month. All that needs to be done is the IOP and commentary. Would there be too many problems in doing this? Cheers, Aboo

Whoop-de-doo I really don't remember the teacher telling us about this last week but she's convinced that she did (she seems to be the only though). Whether she did tell us, I'm going to have to do my recorded oral commentary this wednesday...not exactly something I'm looking forward to, but at least i'll be done with it *shrug* Have you guys got any tips/suggestions/advice which might help me secure some good marks? I suppose taking out a knife and threatening the teacher to keep on rewinding the tape until I get 30/30 would be slightly out of line?
