Sandwich
Essential Subjects A level Biology (or equivalent) essential for all courses. International Baccalaureate 6 in HL Biology. A level Chemistry required for Biochemistry degree. Most courses also require GCSE Grade B in Chemistry or Double Science. You just said it yourself. Maths isn't on the list of essential subjects, therefore you do not need Maths as an essential subject! HL Maths is very hard and likely to pull your overall grades down, so I wouldn't take it unless you really need it. SL Maths covers roughly the A Level Maths course (bar a few things) and will give you sufficient grounding for science and labwork -- with the exception of those wishing to go on to study Physics. People with Maths Studies even go on to do fine in scientific courses, but they do have to do a small amount of catch-up (logarithms etc.) so I'd say SL Maths is ideal for anyone not wanting to pursue a specifically Mathematical career.
