Just wondering how much time teachers give for you to complete homework. Like, do they give you big projects that you have a long time to complete, or do they give lots of small questions and papers due the next day?? I know they say homework for pre-IB can be anywhere from 1-3 or more hours, but if someone could give me examples of what homework they have to do in a week and how much time it takes, that would be great!!!

Okay I have no idea if anyone is going to want to do this, but we'll see. I study better [aka I actually study] when I have someone studying with me. If you'd like to study with me for biology [i'm doing HL but SL is compatible, too] or History [HL... SL compatible too?] then post here. We can get a PM going on here with up to 8 people, I believe. I'm talking about a back-and-forth, IM-type deal where we ask each other questions like quizzing each other. I don't think this would work too well for English or Math haha If anyone wants to ask for help reviewing for a particular subject for May 2010 exams, feel free to post below. If you have a suggestion on how to do thi…

Hello everyone! My name is Darren and I am from New Zealand I was thinking about starting the IB Diploma in New Zealand but unfortunately there is only one school which does IB exclusively instead of NCEA (New Zealand National Curriculum) I was wondering if someone could just have a look for me and see if this school is something that is worth going too. Auckland International College. AIC Cheers, D.

Oh God, oh God etc. Exams in two weeks guys! I am pooing myself. I need 34pts to get into my firm, and 27 to get into my insurance. I got a total of 26pts in my mocks, and that's including bonus points. =/ Is it normal to have such a difference between mock grades and actual grades?? I need to go up by 8 points somehow!! Psychology HL is just ambiguous and strange, and History HL?? Oh, don't get me started, I can't keep up, I'm having kittens about it.

Hi, I am one of the 8 students in my HS participating in the IB Diploma Programme for the next two years. My school just got the OK from the department to do IB so we are like the guinea pigs. (fun..) What I don't have too much information on is... uni admissions. Now, I don't plan on any Ivies, but do want to go to a private college . Also, I live in the U.S. Since ALL the classes offered to us are two-year, will our final, globally-standardized scores impact college admissions. I don't really see how it's possible.. Colleges send their decisions to students on April 1st senior year and we apply way before that. So what do colleges see.. Our score out of 45(how is this d…

I am in theater arts and was very sick for a while and had my research paper due. i rushed through the paper and it was mailed off last week but looking over this paper it looks like there is plagiarism because alot of the information is from wikipedia. i do not know what to do, the paper was not sent through turnitin before it was sent off because it was so last minute. i need to know what to do to fix this, if i do get caught for plagerism does that mean i cant go to college? im a senior and just got accepted to gmu and i feel terrible about this whole thing and am just so worried because i dont know what to do or who to go to?!

Hey guys, basically I just wanted to know if you guys get any time off to study before the exams. We are having a huge debate in our school because the school wants to continue lessons until the very day of the first exam even though we finished all our courses and so students and parents are complaining. (honestly the lessons are really useless atm) How is it in your school? Do you guys have study leave?

I've heard many people use this to revise for exams. Dont really know what it is though, I looked on the IB store website and I am quite interested in the math and biology ones. However without ordering them for hundreds of pounds, it would be nice to know in beforehand what they contain. If they contain past exams, then they are quite useless since you can find them online as well. But what other benefits do they have? Do you guys recommend it? ps. sorry for the typo in the title someone could correct it.

Hey everybody... So I'm interested in what you think the busiest times in IB are. So the entire first year was pretty chill. And I don't think people took things as seriously as they should have... there were many "mock" assessments and prep work, so the predominating spirit was that the real assessment period was light years away. Starting second year, everybody was hit with the reality of things. So many things to be done... EE, TOK presentations, Group 4 project, etc. I had an average of 4 hours of sleep per night. All this coincides with college application period too. I would say that this crazy "all-nighter every night" period is what gives IB its horror stor…

There are people, including me, who do not want to study after the IB programme and prefer to start working immediately. I am about to have my final exams soon and I would love to read about various experiences of people with the same unusual attitude. In short - does the IB certificate impress potential employers? Do you have any experiences in this field? Or anyone who started working right after getting the IB diploma?

if an IB diploma student did their extended essay in Biology, writing about a certain topic - and then handed in a very similar copy of the lab as a biology internal assessment with all the same conclusion/evaluation/etc content, would the IB frown upon this? or what would be the consequence, if any? please reply thanks.

Over the years I've realised that there are a lot of different reasons why someone would choose to do the IB, and all reasons are actually right reasons (like, your parents wanted you to or the school forced you). So I'm curious as to why you guys chose to do IB instead of some other qualification. As for me, there are several reasons actually. If dI didn't do IB I'd be doing a normal high school diploma syllabus which is based on IB anyway (without the pressure of IB exams and IA obviously) but that seemed a bit boring. Also, when I was finishing my IGCSE exams, one of my friends who was finishing off her IB exams at the same time, said to me, "Don't do IB." So, what…

Hello! I have the following problem: We basically didn't have physics the first year of IB (the teacher did everything else than the syllabus) and basically I am in a quite problematic situation now. I would have to focus on physics exclusively (neglect other subjects and not get those 6s and 7s) to score well. But... I am taking a gap year and I would have the whole time of the world to study physics after after May. My idea was the following: I would postpone my physics exam (May 2010) to the November session to have sufficient time to learn. Is that possible? I think I would get 5 subjects as Certificates, and then, after November (after completing my 6th one) I would …

All right, so I've got a question. I'm a full IB Diploma Candidate, and I'm decently smart (of course, taking IB makes me feel rather mentally challenged at times). However, I've got a really hard time managing my time. I get home after doing extracurricular things for an hour or so, and then end up messing around online for god knows how many hours, before finally starting homework. Of course, this leads to a lot of rather late nights with very little sleep. People who have graduated before I have always say how great IB is because they learn to manage their time. All it's taught me so far is that I can do all the work...if I don't sleep at all. It's really beginning to …

To get accepted to the IB school I'm attending this year, you've got to: - Have at least a 4(on a scale from 1-6, in which 6 is the best) in English and maths. - Your maths must be theoretical, not practical(In Norway you can choose between these two, theoretical is a lot harder and moves faster) - Write a short summary on your reasons for choosing the IB, what you can contribute to the programme and what spare time activities you have. You might also have to come to an interview if they're insecure about your motivation. What about your school?

http://warwick.nn.k12.va.us/ib/pdf/IB_regulations.pdf See page 9 and 10. for everyone who got scared of getting involved into plagiarism. Here is the answer. even though you are suspected to plagiarize, as long as you can defend yourself well when you are called, you are FINE. SO if you have not done your plagiarism, you are fine.

Hey! This topic is for everyone since we're all going to be writing IB exams, or in some cases, you have already written them. Basically you can share any tips and advice on anything to do with revision/studying for exams. If you want to, you can reply in the following format (this is optional though): 1) When did you/are you planning to start revising for exams? 2) What study methods did you use (e.g. making charts, diagrams, forming study groups, writing summaries, flashcards) 3) Which of these study methods worked/works best for you, and why? 4) What was/is the most challenging IB subject to study for and why? 5) Any other advice.... I'll post my reply to the quest…

Some, or I would say most, of the IB teachers are quite peculiar individuals, and during the IB studies you get to know some of them quite well, as well as they get to know you (especially EE supervisors, CAS-leaders and others who you spend loads of time with.) Discussing various topics with the teachers can at its best be fascinating, inspiring, enlightening even... but in the worst case scenario it can be painfully awkward.. As we know, all teachers have different personalities, and should therefore be approached from different angles and in different manners. Nevertheless, all the teachers are high authorities in our little school hierarchy, and should be treated acco…

The IB profile dictates that we have to be risk-takers.so what is the most outrageous/wacky/crazy thing you've done for CAS? Mine would have to be when i put on tights and flamboyent striped socks for rehearsals for the school talent show and then was sent on an errand around campus while still dressed like that. All for creativity hours.

Hi, I'm starting IB1 in September. I chose Polish A1 HL, English B HL, French B HL, Math SL, Biology SL, Geography SL. Unfortunately, French B HL group won't be created so I have to choose History, Geography, Economics or Biology on HL. I won't really need these subjects in my future. The only one subject which WOULD be necessary is history. I don't know what to do - choose History, Geography or Economics on HL and torture myself with them or just quit IB and pass a regular high school diploma ? And which one above-mentioned subject is the easiest to pass in IB? I was so happy when I got into IB and now I don't know what to do because of one stupid HL subject.

I've been thinking for a while about doing an exchange overseas this summer between IB1 and IB2, probably to France, seeing as how I'm taking French this year. My parents and I have looked at a few organisations, and it seems like it would be a really great experience, but I have some worries. Firstly, I've heard some of the second years at my school talking about the amount of schoolwork they had during that summer, especially with the EE. Hopefully, if I did end up taking an exchange, I'd be able to get up to date with that before the holidays, but I realise that that may not happen. Do you think that an exchange then could be seriously detrimental to my grades, would I…

My school is assessment entry because the IB is fairly new in Australia, so they are promoting as an 'alternative education system for the best and brightest students'. We are also however a performing arts academy. So, instead of doing both business and a science, we can choose to do ESS and two arts. We've been told we're he only one in the world doing it, but I want to check anyway (because it'd make life easier for us to have another school to talk to :]). So the question is; can anyone choose two arts for their IB and still get a full diploma like our school?

I'm a little confused about this after reading the contents in some forums. We were told that for every subject except maths, we only have to decide which we want to do as HL at the end of Yr 11 for a start in Yr 12. Are all schools like this? Only doing the HL stuff in the second year? Thanks heaps!

Our IB coordinator wants to have an IB conference with all the year 2 IB students and the students who are thinking about taking IB so we (the Year 2s) can help explain/demystify the IB diploma program, and essentially convince them to do IB. The problem is, I don't have very many good things to say about it at the moment... So what I want to know is, for all you people who already have your IB diplomas, was it really worth it? Did it help you out post-secondary? and do you have any encouraging words/anecdotes/personal experiences to share with these poor young 'uns who are soon going to be swamped by the IB workload?? Thanks!

I am in the middle of my first year in the IB program, and I am doing well in all of my classes as a straight A student. I am generally a good test taker, but I am unsure as to how high I may score on the exams. I see people with 37-42 points all over the website, and for some reason I feel as though I may not even get the diploma. My courses are as follows: English HL History HL Math SL Psychology HL Physics SL Italian SL What is the relative difficulty of these exams, I honestly have no idea what to expect.

I was just wondering that how do you make yourself feel better knowing you failed tests or barely passed. I know this happens a lot to me in Sciences, although I know the material, its the way IB questions you that you tend to screw up. Even though marks don't matter when you're preparing for exams, does it bother anyone else? and then the conversion scale from ib to your provincial expectations is entirely another story.....
