Hi guys, I am in a huge dilemma. I am currently doing my first year of IB in Denmark and I have an aspiration to study medicine in the UK. I am currently taking the following subjects: - Biology HL - English A Lang & Lit. HL - Danish B HL - History SL - Chemistry SL - Math Studies SL I know that in Danish universities, it is perfectly okay to take gap years and supplement a level in one of your subjects to get into the university you want to. I have come to learn that Chemistry HL is quite important to get into a med school in the UK. However, I feel that I will not be able to pass with acceptable points in the IB if I take Chem…

Hello i am new here I just screwed up my IB exam with 24 points total and just scraped a diploma. The universities i applied for is Leicester (30 points) and Hull (28 points). I was originally predicted 28 points. My parents want me to go for a foundation course and they are really really pissed. I suggested doing a retake for Geography and Maths, but my dad fears universities would despise students taking retakes in examination. Is that true? I got the following (crappy) grades: HL - Bio = 5 - Business = 5 - Geo = 4 SL - Maths = 2 - French = 3 - English A1 = 5 Should i do a retake or foundation course? Someone help me, I am VERY worried, pissed and scared (of my dad th…

I’m just doing my UCAS application and for quite a few weeks now have gotten stuck on the uni choice (applying for a physics course). I’m predicted 37 points without bonus points and 6,6,5 (hl physics, chemistry and maths respectively). So far I was thinking St. Andrews, Manchester, Bath, nottingham and Leicester. But I’m not sure whether these are the most appropriate. Does anyone have any advice on better suited choices or about the physics courses and life in general at these unis?

Hi, I am sorry if what I am about to ask has been discussed ad nauseam, I couldn't really find the answer to my question anywhere. I am looking at getting a degree in Chemistry from schools in England (Oxbridge, Bath, etc.) and I am consistently seeing how Chemistry HL and Math HL is a requirement to get into these programs. Problem is, my school doesn't offer HL Chem + Math. Instead, I am taking Physics HL and Bio HL with Math SL because those are the most difficult classes my school offers that is relevant to Chemistry (for clarity, I am taking English Lang&Lit SL, History of America HL, Physics HL, Bio HL, Spanish SL, and Math SL, as well as Science Research …

I have the UMAT in a few days and I'm not entirely sure about it. I know you need HL Chem to study in the UK but I don't do it. I'm willing to change but Chemistry is difficult for me at times. I am not sure if our school has registered our IB subjects yet. They said they were about to. Can you amend registrations? Also, if I decide to do it, do I have a chance at doing well in the BMAT? I haven't prepared at all but I hear that Section 1 is kind of similar to UMAT. I do Maths Studies so I don't know if I am at a disadvantage. As an Australian student, would my predicted grade be used or my real grade?

Hi, I'm currently looking into top UK universities that offer Physics, and I feel lost so I'm making a post. Obviously, Cambridge and Oxford are high up there, but I'm also interested in the reception of Physics courses. Grades aren't an issue, I'm just looking for all options. I'm also quite interested in Philosophy, so a course such as Physics & Philosophy would be a dream. However I haven't been able to find much information on courses such as Physics & Philosophy, so I would greatly appreciate any information there is :). If anyone could redirect me to sites that offer more details I would love it. Thanks!!

I am an IB student with marks around 38/42, i am willing to study Medicine in the UK. I just finished my Year 1 in IB diploma, and now i am in the summer break. I am willing to make some Medical Researches and write some articles of this with the help of my parents (Professors in Medicine). Is that going to help me in getting accepted in universities abroad????

I'm a month into IB and my classes so far are: HL Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Arabic B; SL Economics and English LL. However, I've been rethinking what I want to do in the future and have been moving away from engineering/physics towards more Maths and computer science. If I decide to drop chemistry for comp sci, my schedule will be as follows: HL Maths, Physics, English LL; SL Comp Sci, Economics, Spanish AB. My school doesn't offer computer science Higher Level. I'm worried that this setup is not as strong as the first one with regards to me applying for mathematics at Oxford. Also, without CS HL, there is no way I can apply for CS at Oxford and be taken seriously. T…

Hello. I'm very confused and I feel like I can't talk to my parents about this anymore or any of my teachers, so I'm trying here. My dilemma: I would say I'm quite wishy-washy in terms of what subject I want to study. I know I want to do something science related, but I don't know what exactly it is at this point. My parents want me to study medicine because their reasoning is that I should go for a job where I won't have to work for anyone (they're against me entering the corporate world and to an extent, I agree with them). Now my problem is that I'm not exactly against doing medicine, there are some aspects that I find interesting - what I'm trying to say is that I'm n…

I'm starting my full IB programme next year. I didn't really decide what to study in order to choose my subjects. I'm between (Medicine, Dentistry, or Pharmacy "Biology/chemistry related majors") or Engineering. I know that for engineering, I have to take Physics and math, and for Medicine, Dentistry, or Pharmacy, I have to take Chemistry and Biology. Also, I want to choose Physics, Chemistry, and Math HL. (I studied 2 years of middle school in Egypt so I've taken advanced bio). Also, I took a semester of biology in grade 9 which is included in my high school American diploma as the school award it too to us. But I'm not willing to choose biology in my IB, can I still do…

I'm in my second year of IB and about to take my exams this May. I've decided I'd like to do medicine and was just wondering how to go about it as I haven't taken HL Biology or Chemistry. Would it be better to take Chemistry and Biology A levels in a third year of school and apply for medicine with those as well as my IB grade from this summer or would it be possible to change subjects to HL chemistry and biology and resit next year? (I doubt it) Also if anyone has any info about how unis would see this change in subjects. I know it's extremely competitive so would it even be worth trying? Cheers

Im a student in Sweden with the subjects; English A HL Economics HL History HL Math SL Swedish A SL ESS SL I'm very sure that I want to apply to an University in the UK, and study Economics. A school I'm very keen on is LSe (London School of Political and Economical Science). Courses of my interest; BSc Philosphy and Economics BSc Economics BSc Econometrics and Mathematical Economics They generally require International Baccalaureate: Diploma with 38 points including 7 6 6 at Higher level, including 7 in Mathematics Do they mean that it's a must to have a 7 in Math HL, or does a 7 in Math SL suffice? Now at the start of my 2nd term, 2nd year, I'm facing a choice... I'm very sure that i want to study an Economics course at a "better" University, One thing that I noticed (and I hope, not to late) is that both LSe (London School of Political Science and Economics), University of Cambridge and -Oxford requires Math HL (a score of 6 and 7) (LSe seems to accept Math SL but prefer HL) [Correct me if Im wrong] I have Math SL, and Math HL isn't offered at my School but I've seen that you can take Online course, at Pamoja (Fee: initial $300, and later $1000). The fee is something Im probably going to be forced to cover myself. Is there any chance at getting …

Hi, I was wondering if the grades I got during my pre dp year are necessary to submit in the education section in UCAS? None of the grades from that year are part of my diploma and they are not really relevant to my application. I was just curious because I want to be completely certain before I submit my application. Hi, So I'm in 2nd year IB and I planning to apply for the London School of Economics, accounting and finance for 2018 admissions. For accounting and finance, they said on the website they require 38 points, with 6, 6, 6 in HL. I take HL econ, english B and maths, where I am predicted to get 7, 6, 5 respectively. So, because LSE is wanting a 6 in HL maths, and I am only predicted a 5, will I be kicked out immediately? and, if I actually do get a 6 in HL maths in the final exam is the result going to change in the end, like if I make a phone call or something will they consider me on letting me in or not? Thanks!

My subject choices for IB are:- Mathematics HL Economics HL Computer Science HL/SL Spanish ab initio LangLit SL I am planning to pursue Finance or Finance and Accounting or Business Analytics and Business Management as my career. However, I have read that choosing Business Management as a subject is considered a 'soft subject' for UK universities and the syllabus is very generic. Should I choose Business Management, or should I choose any other subject and which?

Hey! I am an IB graduate who just did a retake in one of my crucial subjects as I was not satisfied with the grade I got during exams. Now I'm in the process of applying to universities in the UK and I was wondering how does one enter details about results from retakes in the education section? I did the retakes in another school than the one I graduated IB from in the first place and so I'm a bit confused about how I am supposed to enter the qualifications details. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I received 8A* at iGCSE and have applied to Oxford. The fact that most applicants for ug med did upto 15 GCSEs and got 10A* on average is plaguing me. My school fixed 7 subjects per students so I couldn't take more GCSEs. I'm an international applicant so my chances are already pretty low for an offer. Unsure if the 9 GCSEs in total compared to 14 will be a downer?

Hi, I'm thinking to applying to British universities for the course of accounting and finance. I was initially thinking to have my economics teacher write my recommendation letter but I read on the page from LSE for accounting and finance that you would be assessed on high numeracy skills and on strong analytical skills. So, I started to think that maybe I should get my maths teacher write my recommendation letter. I have good relationship with both the teachers and I take the 2 subjects as my HL courses, but I am doing better in Economics than in maths. What do you guys think?? Any suggestion/advice is very much appreciated!!

Hey there! So I am planning to apply to the UK as an international student. In high school I am doing the IB diploma and my predicted will be around 40-41 with HL biology (7) HL chemistry (6) HL Psychology (6) SL Eng (6) SL Mandarin (6) SL Math (6-7), my UKCAT score was average 650 with a band 3 SJT. I really wanted to apply to imperial, UCL, King's, Brighton Sussex and possibly anything for another school. According to my grades and UKCAT, what do you guys think would be my best option? and do you guys think King's would consider me as they highly value UKCAT score? Any advice would be amazing!

Hi! So, I've just finished my first month of the IB programme. I am planning to apply to medicine in the UK. Theoretically, I have picked all of the subjects that are required (chemistry&biology HL). However, I am concerned about English even though I'm aware the choice between English A and B is not that important for universities (and there is nothing mentioned about in in entry requirements). Currently, I'm attending English B classes, but it is the last possibility to transfer this week. On the one hand, English B is more likely to provide me with a 7 on the exam + it would allow me to focus on biology and chemistry for medicine (as there is definitely l…

Hello everyone I just started my first year of IB (woohoo) and my subjects are English HL, History HL, Biology HL, French B SL, Math SL, Art SL. I want to study Law and I was wondering if the UK universities had any specific requirements for the law course? I read that generally uk university care more about your final score than the actual subjects that you take (or atleast for law). My dilemma is Math SL, I really want to drop to Math Studies to be able to maximize my IB score and because Math SL is going to be too challenging for me. So will having math studies affect my college application in any way? Thank you!!

Hi, my name is Roberto. I'm Venezuelan but I am emigrating to Dominican Republic. In Venezuela I have obtained excellent grades, reflected in a 20/20 result. I'm thinking to study in an Dominican school called Saint George that offers IB. The problem is that it doesn't offer Math HL (SL, only) and I want to study Economics at LSE. There are only two IB schools in DR, the other one doesn't offer HL Math neither. What do you think I can do? Should I notify the university that I had no choice but taking SL instead of HL? Do you know any Pre-University course that could substitute the Math SL?
