My group and I have formulated a topic for our TOK presentation and it is "Does Race exist?" I thought of this topic because my 8th grade history teacher was the one to first bring it up in a class and i was really interested in it. Is this topic too cliche or not creative enough etc. Can anyone give me feedback on this. Thanks in advance.

Hi, my group is doing a ToK Presentation on clining and whether restictions should be placed on it or not. and im talking in favor of cloning (not necessarily humans, but organs etc) and I have writtin this so far: "What possible reasons do we have to forbid such a great advancement to modern science? Science has so far only brought prosperity to the human race. Look at life before the industrial revolution: people lived on farms with a low standard of living. Power was supplied by humans and animals and low quality hand-crafted goods were made at home. Today the average standards of living have gone up and we have had several ground breaking discoveries such as the Wo…

Hi everyone...i am doing my tok presentation in relation with the LHC (large hadron collider). some knowledge issues that im thinking about are: to what extent is spending 3.2-6.4 billion euros necessary in the name scientific research when a large part of the world is already in immediate danger from poverty and crime? How will our universe and our perception of knowledge change when the results of the LHC are complete and various discoveries have been made some of which possibly being paradigm shifts? Can using media in a knowingly false manner so as to trick the public and shape their view be justified?...I want to include these in my presentation. I will discuss…

For those who have watched Big Bang theory, I'm doing a skit around 5-7 minutes on Plato, Locke, and Kant, and the three characters I will use to represent them are Leonard, Sheldon, and Raj. If you have never watched this series before, I highly recommend it! But for those who have, do you think it's a good idea? I finished a six page script on it, but I'm not sure if it will work or not.

Hey.. I have to prepare and deliver a presentation which is: • 10 minutes in duration • On a contemporary topic • Raises knowledge issues (i.e. possibilities and problems of knowledge) related to "Knowledge and Belief" • Focuses on an AoK and relevant WoKs. I was hoping someone could help me out with choosing a current affair which relates to knowledge and belief and maybe just help me to get started, because I am having a bit of trouble. Thanks

Hi, I would like some advice. My topic for my tok presentation is : is it ethical to airbrush pictures for a better 'effect' I will be discussing cultural impacts for example celebrities airbrushed to look thin etc and the impact on girls and women. My questions would be: is this a too over-done topic? and i'm having a hard time coming up with knowledge issues. i'm thinking i should define ethical first. and now i'm stuck ;( btw i'm doing this presentation by myself. Thanks in advance (:

Hey guys, Im currently in the early stages of my TOK presentation (the first one) and I've decided to do a topic on non-verbal communication, and the importatnce of it etc. I'm having trouble, however, figuring out how to link it really clearly to a 'knowledge issue', as all i can really think of that could be a knowledge issue is how we know and interpret what people are thinking and feeling through n-v communication. I'd really appreciate some help/suggestions for how I could link a knowledge issue to this. Thanks a lot!

So we got our marks back today for our presentations (they were mock, of course) and my TOK teacher gave us this spiel about how TOK is graded way harder than all the other courses and she's never given a ninety (which is an A for the essay) to anyone. Is this just my school/my teacher or is TOK generally this screwy? Also, why is an 85 a C? Is it just me or does that seem weird?

We're doing a practice essay in class, and I was just wondering if it was okay to qualify. Here's our practice topic: Statistics can be very helpful in providing a powerful interpretation of reality but also can be used to distort our understanding. Discuss some of the ways in which statistics can be used or misused in different Areas of Knowledge to assist and mislead us, and how we can determine whether to accept the statistical evidence that is presented to us.

We have an oral presentation this week. Our task is to choose two philosophers and summarize their main ideas related to the nature of truth and knowledge. We have to compare and contrast their similarities and differences, and use specific details and examples. It's basically analyzing the philosophers and their major ideas. I HAVE NO IDEA WHICH PHILOSOPHERS I'M GOING TO DO, AND I CAN'T FIND ANY GOOD RESOURCE. The philosophers we can choose from: Aristotle, Augustine, Baruch Spinoza, DAvid Hume, Emmanuel Kant, Friedrich Nietzsche, George Hegel, Jean-JAcques Rousseau, Jean-paul Sartre, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Plotinus, Rene Descartes, Sir Francis Bacon, Socrates, Sor…

This is my Tok presentation topic, "Is racism culturally conditioned or instinctive?", as said in the title. I'm not sure how I should approach this and in what manner should I present it (poster, powerpoint, video, hand outs? etc) I was thinking at first to tackle the issue of: is there such thing as a race? and connecting that racism. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

My teacher is preparing us for the oral presentation by having us practice on given example topics, ones that pertain to each AoK we go over per week. This week we are focusing on the Human Sciences (social sciences). He wants us to prepare some points for a class discussion. The human sciences are the academic disciplines (e.g. anthropology, economics, political science, sociology, psychology) that try to reduce the mystery of human nature by studying human behavior, human society and social relationships. I know that as much, but how would I delve into the following questions? I want to incorporate as an example of groups of people the tribes in Kenya and South Afric…

The ogogpogo is basically a creature that is said to live in the okanagan lake. Some people have said to see it and have taken pictures but aren't rally clear. But there is no real proof of it. Okay so, so far all i can think of is 1. How do we know the information relating to the ogopogo is real? and yeah..... got stuck about there. Ahh i'm freaking out this is our first formal presentation.

hi im kind of not sure how you would approach this prescribed title...can you please give me some ideas to how i might be able to outline it? I really have a big problems at proving any thing ,, even with using what Ive learned from TOK I can easily convince people ,,,, although my TOK teacher is the only one who i cant convince ,, especially when he say to me: "give me an example of a true" even after using the 4 ways of knowledge to give an evidence of a true, he come out with something extremely vague that i cant prove, so whatever i say , its not truth. i think there is some thing wrong with his teaching,,, i can show you how does he do that, just state a truth.

We just started TOK this semester, and I absolutely hate it to the core, anyways, we are supposed to do this presentation. It includes: a visual, supported with a speech. The visual should be complex enough to incorporate all questions with one visual object. Explain how it represents all of these questions. • What do we know we know? What do we think we know? What do we think we don’t know? What do we know we don’t know? What don’t we know we don’t know? I was thinking about doing a book or a model of the earth, but I'm confused on how I should answer...any help? I would greatly appreciate it.

Our emotions control us: Sometimes we can't help feeling the way we feel. The classic example would be someone loving someone they're not supposed to love. No matter how hard they try to control their emotions, they can't. In a lot of cases we can't tell ourselves what emotions to feel, especially strong emotions. When we're feeling depressed, we can't cheer up just by ourselves to. We control our emotions: We're taught how to feel about certain things. When we've done something wrong, we're told to feel remorseful, therefore we do(I don't know if I'm making much sense here....) When emotions are not very strong, we can change them easily. If we're upset about…
