My teacher told my class to do an oral presentation about a philosopher's (in my case, it's Socrates) biography, ideology, points of view, his way of thinking, etc. Can someone help me on how I'm supposed to do this, how should I start, anything?

How many knowledge issues is it wise to include in a TOK presentation? Fewer in-depth is better than many shallowly examined. But what is few? 1? And another one mentioned and lightly touched upon? Because that is where I am now with my topic. My topic is legalization of prostitution. My real life situation is a situation in Nevada where legal brothels is the main part of the industry (Documentary with Stephen Fry as source, anyone seen it?). The best KI I have now, is this: To what extent does reason confirm our belief in legalization of prostitution in terms of ethics? Reason vs. ethics )sort-of) in this debate, then. Any advise? Especially about the number of KIs? And…

Hi, Me and my group want to do a topic on the perception of beauty I don't know if we should add this to the end of the sentence: "and the cultural (and/or biological) ramifications" to make the topic: The perception of beauty across time and the cultural (and/or biological)ramifications of it. Can any one advise me whether to include the last part of the topic, and if so, should I do both cultural and biological ramifications, or one, and if so, which one over the other and why. And we haven't come up with knowledge issues yet (or anything really), but we're thinking about how emotion and perception define beauty (ie/ different people see beauty in different ways)... a…

Hey. I am confused about my TOK topics like hell. As I've mentioned in my earlier post, my teacher is not being very helpful. I may not end up doing my TOK presentation on teenage suicides but then I wanted to do it on something related to the media. Like how it influences our opinion, other aspects like how it contributes to anorexia too!. How is the structure of a TOK presentation? Like you first explain your real like situation to the audience? Then explain your knowledge issue. After which you link it to the AOKs and WOKs and then the conclusion. I've referred some TOK books and my subject guide but I still don't have a clear idea. In school, we have changed nearly t…

My question is: The coherence theory of truth, as used in the scientific method, ensures that new theories will take a long time to be accepted by the scientific community. What I have so far: 1) Whether the new theory coheres with other statements that are known to be true. 2) There is a new theory, and it manages to integrate all evidence harmoniously as compared to the old theory pertaining to the same things with which contradictions have appeared. Logically speaking, the coherence theory of truth will ensure that it is easily accepted (instead of a long time). However, it is the paradigms and beliefs that people have of the old (and often more established) theory. I …

I was assigned a TOK presentation and the requirements are for me to answer the following questions: -What do you know? -How do you know it? -How do you know it to be true? -Why is the knowledge important to consider in TOK? And the topic is: something you know, are passionate about, have a talent for, or show special interest in. I was wondering if the topic of how cars play an important role in society would be a good topic. The presentation only has to be 3-5 minutes long.

Alright, it's time to start preparing for the TOK presentations and the thing is me and my partner can̈́t come up with a good question. And the teacher isn't much help. Now, I was thinking something related to the drugs (legal/illegal) as that is topic of interest for me. I could also think it would be fun, and perhaps more TOKish, to bring up ethics in some way. But, to be honest, I don't know **** about these presentations (haven't got the criteria - anything). So I guess what I'm asking for here is some basic help with the presentations in general and how to formulate a question in particular.

Guys should I do my oral on the ethics behind the movie "The Human Centipede"? Like, clearly, Dr Heiter was insane and is clearly responsible for the atrocious things he did, but if he managed to save about say 200 Siamese twins over his entire life, and only he could do the surgeries, then does that mean he is a net benefit to society?

Is it reasonable to believe something because an expert told you? Im writing an essay on the topic, for ToK. I know the classic argument would be to state no, because they might be wrong, etc. But would it work if I said yes, to an extent, especially in area's which the general population cannot do individual research in? That's the angle im thinking of taking. Also, if anyone else has interesting angles, feel free to post them here

I read somewhere that reasoning is the main way of knowing in the natural sciences as it involves the use of all three truth tests: the coherence test, the correspondence test, and the pragmatic test. Can anyone comment on this? what does is it mean when it says "as it involves the use of all three truth tests"? What role does Reason play in Natural sciences?

I don't know if our school is one of the few who are trialling this, or if all IB schools are doing this, but this year they're testing online submissions for IAs - first starting with the TOK essay. Anyway, I was wondering how this worked? I tried to find some information about it, but found nothing. Does anyone have any info about it?

Our ToK teacher gave us handouts with guidelines about the presentation, and a few suggestions as topics. Quite a few people in the class chose a topic which was on the paper, my teacher was fine with it, but I just read a post about plagiarism issues with the ToK essay and presentation...Does taking a topic from a handout count as plagiarism, if I get my own information separately?

My partner and I were either thinking about doing: What is good comedy? what funny and what isn't? When do you cross the line between funny and plain rude or wrong? is it true when they say 'if they laugh its funny'? But we're not sure how to present it and if it's even any good. We just want to have a topic that will interest people. Otherwise we have in store: Does it matter whether or not our perception of reality is true? Which one is better and how can we present it to make it the most entertaining while still sticking to the areas/ways of knowing?

Hi, My ToK teacher has told me, out of the blue, that my presentation is due 8/2 (less than 6 days from now). I ain't got no clue on ToK, I think I might've survived the essay thanks to other users' help on another post I made. So, I chose "The reliability of the Internet as a source of information" as a topic. How can I put this as a knowledge issue? Is okay? What format would you suggest I use? I'm doing it alone, and I've gotta talk for 10' straight. Would you suggest a PPT pres, or is there a better option? How do I relate this to areas and ways of knowing? I was thinking ethics and language; but I don't know how to introduce that in my presentation without making it…
