I'm not sure if I understand them. When you apply for university, you apply for your main subject, which is your...major, right? Now, some universities offer minors right? Or do all of them offer minors? If you decide to take a minor, when do you apply for it? Where do you do this? And when you're doing your minor, you'll be studying for this minor course along with your major, right? So when others are studying for one course, you'll have to study for two, which is harder, right? When you graduate, you'll have a bachelor degree in your major AND minor, right? What's the other differences between a major and minor. Advantages of taking a minor course? Cons of it? Thanks

I do not necessarily care about which university I go to, as long as their Vet. Medicine/Vet. Science department isn't too shabby. However, I understand that math studies doesn't exactly look convincing in your report. If I do math studies and get a 6 or 7, would that be better, or should I do math SL and risk getting a lower overall mark/math mark? I am, in general, talking about the US, UK and Australia/NZ

If I am going in these directions, would Math SL be preferred? I am absolutely terrible at math. It takes me forever to understand something, then an instant to forget it again. I really don't know if I can do Sl. But since the subjects I'm aiming for are science-related, maybe I need SL, right? Thanks

I'm currently a student in Florida, USA and am planning on staying in-state for college since it is a lot cheaper. I was choosing between University of Florida and University of Central Florida. I have been accepted into the Honors program at UCF and have also decided to go there. My parents don't like this choice, however, because everyone tells them that UF has more name recognition and prestige than UCF, and thus is a better choice. To me, I feel like if I tried hard enough I could get far in life even if I went to a lower ranked school. Does ranking mean everything, really? What annoys me is that they keep saying, "well it's your choice, we'll go through with whateve…

Hey everyone! Well, the reason why I created this topic is because its been a question that I've had for a while and I can't really find an answer to it! So, here's my question; Do I have to be good in chemistry or even like chemistry to study and do well in medicine? Of course, biology is a given, but does chemistry play a large role in medicinal studies? Thanks!

Okay, so I messed up my paper 1 and 2 in mathematics standard level timezone 2! How would UK-universities and US-universities feel about an applicant with 1 or more retakes in the diploma? Do you know any specific universities that don't bother and specific unis that "welcomes" no matter whether you retook exams or not. Please answer this question of mine!

My subjects are- HL : English, History, Biology SL : Japanese, Math studies, Physics What kind of careers can I derive from such subjects and which uni would be best to enter in order to fulfill the requirements of that career? Also, what are the demands of the particular university? Personally, I would like to attend a university in a country close to my own, so preferably in Asia.

Yo, I'm a freshman in high school and in the Pre-IB program. But we aren't fully licensed yet so they call it Baccalaureate Prep. I have always been a mostly A's student but now that I'm in the IB program last semester I got all B's and 1 A (The A was in my Elective) I'm freaking out because I obviously want to be in a prestigious university and I don't know if I should stay in the IB program if I keep this up. My career that I am going after is going to be either Attorney, and I want to be a high attorney, so much that I eventually want to be a partner in a big city big firm. Or I might turn after Architect or Developer. I am passionate of both of these paths that I volu…

Hi, I know that this isn't an easy question to answer, as things vary from school to school, and between individuals as well. I'm interested in knowing how much chances I would have if I had: 38/42 IB Music, Physics, Math HL English A2, Japanese A1, Economics SL 2000 on the SAT I (How much would it affect my chances if it was 1900?) All 720 on Physics, Math II, Math I and Japanese on the SAT II (570 on TOEFL but I might not take it if I do not need to) I organise two school activities, I am the leader of the school orchestra. I also have a few prizes in music competitions if that helps. That is my current goal - I am in year 12 in the UK system (grade 11 in the US I assu…

Hey Well, I'm sort of in a dilemma here and I'd like to see what choice you would make if you were in my spot... Basically, I got an acceptance from UBC a few days ago and I've gotten conditional offers for Newcastle,Birmingham and Leicester... Now the problem is, it seems like my closest friends are in the UK or just Europe in general...yet passing up UBC seems like a waste to me... So my question is...what would you chose?=/

Hey everyone! Background about me - i'm a junior, i'm doing IB... So, I took a practice SAT, not the PSAT, but a practice round of SAT with some friends. This was my first experience taking it, and scored 1850 on it. I'm doing the following, and expect to be predicted whats beside them. HL: Maths - 5/6 English - 6/7 Econ - 6/7 Computer Science - 7 SL: Bio - 6/7 French - 4/5 Psych - 5/6 What sort of universities do you think I'll be able to apply to, with a realistic chance of getting in? I'm planning on doing a double major in computer science and business, with a possible minor in social psychology. Thanks! EDIT -- I'm pretty active in our school with extracurricular ac…

Hi, I have a question. I'm on my way to getting a 5 in HL Chemistry, I know it's not a great grade but getting a 6 is a bit of a stretch for me and I was wondering if a 5 could get me into any kind of biochemistry programme in university? I will probably be getting a 7 in HL Biology and a 6 in SL Math if that's any help at all. Thanks in advance.

I am absolutely fascinated by marine animals, nature as in canyons, waterfalls, the Amazon, and in short, just with nature (don't count in the bugs and insects and whatnot). I am also fascinated with domestic animals, so animals as a whole. I was thinking of being a Vet, as I posted before in other posts, but then I realized that although I am really passionate about being a vet, and also went to do volunteering jobs at my local SPCA, I still couldn't put the thought of nature and wild animals out of my head. I then wondered about the prospect of being a marine biologist, but then I realized that being a marine biologist doesn't necessarily mean you'll be able to interact…

To all current university students, do us high schoolers a favour and help us a little? Share about your university experience. What's changed from high school in terms of academics and your social life? Is it more lax than IB or are you in some killer programme that's even tougher? Are you having the time of your lives or are you homesick? Hehe, you guys don't have to answer all of the above questions, of course... but do share. Anything in regards to uni is fine, really.

Hi there, I'm planning to apply to French unis but I'm slightly confused about the application procedures atm... Anyone familiar with them? (i.e. when to apply, where to apply, when will they make me an offer, until when do I have to respond to that offer...?) Also, do you think it's a good/bad idea to study in France? What I've heard of is that the unis don't have a good reputation... I'd like to do Foreign Languages at either Strasbourg, Nancy, Nice, Marseille, Montpellier, or maybe Lyon or Toulouse (+ Uni Louvain, Liege or Bruxelles in Belgium)... do you know anything about those unis, any tips + co., pros+cons...? Looking forward to many replies

Okay so here's the situation: I am currently a sophomore, and am in the midst of making my course choices for IB. Currently, I am thinking of doing HL: Math, Physics, Music SL: English A, French B1, History I chose my three highers based on my interests (I am highly interested in music.) However, in the future, I plan on persuing engineering. Would I need to take Chemistry (probably HL) instead of music for engineering? Is it generally a requirement for universities? I would like to take Music HL, but I also don't want to end up not meeting adequate requirements should I persue engineering. Anyone have any info about this?

Hi, I would like to know what does it mean by single and double honours? I've heard that doing lets say French and Sociology or other combinations to be seen as less professional than doing one single subject in uni, is this true? Also, what is the difference for example if you have a bachelor of science in economics or a bachelor in arts in economics?

So I was wondering whether there were any students who applied to medical schools abroad and what their experiences were. I know that in the UK, the chances of getting accepted into medical school as an international student is quite low. Does this mean I shouldn't put much hope into applying overseas? Also, there are the tuition fees, which are usually excruciatingly high for international students! Anyone have advice???

Hi, I would like to go into an accelerated pharmacy program. I am a current junior, and I am dead set on Pharmacy. My only requirements for schools are, well there are none, other than they must have a good pharmacy program. I have looked into University of the Pacific in California. I am willing to go to different states and even different countries. I am a Diploma Candidate, I prefer the college be reasonably priced. Do you have any recommendations for colleges, or recommendations on things I can do now to better my chances of getting into the school, and possibly getting a scholarship. Thanks for your help, Janki

My dream choice is Cornell University, which isn't hard to reach if I start working hard, as I'm only in a pre-IB year. However, worst case scenario, I don't get into Cornell, what other choices do I have? I really am not sure what uni has a good veterinary science course, and any info will be greatly appreciated. Hello, I was wondering if anybody was ever able to transfer an SL course in university (mainly, McGill and U of T). I want to do mainly math and finance in undergrad and nearly ALL math courses have a calculus prerequisite. I really don't want to fall behind on so many interesting courses to take a year of calculus that I already know...mostly. I got a 7 by the way. Any ideas? Thanks!

I'm a junior and I want to go into the medical field after I graduate... I'm currently not doing so well in pre-calculus becuase I don't really have the time to devote to it to really learn it, so I was thinking about switching to Math Studies. Both math teachers, my principle, and my guidance counselor say it would be fine for me to switch over, but I don't want it to interfere with my college admissions. Furthermore, I would like to get into a school in the UK, so do they require Calculus? I've looked at the school I want to go to and they only say that they accept the IB diploma, but not much more. I know I will eventually have to take Calculus to get my medical degre…

Do you need to take IB chemistry if you're going into psychology and it's related fields? I mainly ask this because I'm leaning towards cognitive science, and it involves studying computer science and information technology. If I don't take chemistry, then I might as well take ITGS since it might give me an advantage in college somehow.

my school has never been an IB school before and starting few days back, we entered the IB program. Even though it's going to be as hard as what I've been hearing from my friends overseas, what makes it worse is my maths HL teacher. Hi I would like to get into imperial. They seem to have increased the scores from 34 to 39. Do they take students below 39 as i am getting about a 38 with 7 in chem Hl, 6 in phy and math Hl.Are these scores good enough? Do you get any scholarships in Uk and Cananda as many people say you don't for under-grad courses -how far is this true? What are good unis in Cananda for Chem-Engineering and what ib scores do they require. Is IElTS required for a student getting 6 in IB english sl? Are the IELTS fine for Canada or do they prefer the SAT 1. Do you require to write essays for Canada unis other than personal statement. What are dates for applying in the Canada. Thanks.
