ThePenetrator
Hey, guys! So we've been given time to prepare for the ToK presentation and I've been wondering a lot about which topic to choose. From the ones that I've given some thought to, I think for me the most exciting seems the Sotheby's Banksy auction that happened a few years back. Given that I have to base my presentation on a real world example, I thought that this could be solid ground for a pretty evocative discussion. The thing that I'm at a loss right now is the knowledge question. On one hand, I understand the idea of the ToK argument and the KQ, but at the same time I'm unsure about what I have in mind. Could the KQ be something like this - To what extent can we appreciate the unethical and what shapes our opinions of it? I might be waay off the target here, but my idea is that on paper street art is and remains illegal, therefore being unethical to the regular person by definition. However, since the artworks fetched such insane prices, the art was obviously enjoyed by the public. So the issue that rises is how could the people pay for the aesthetic enjoymeny of something that is deemed morally unacceptable in the public? Also, I could talk about the shared knowledge present in art that sometimes greatly influences personal knowledge, giving a sort of ''snowball'' effect to social trends like the given insane boom of street art that happened a few years back. So what do you think, is this acceptable?Am I coming close to what ToK expects from me? Edited February 3, 2015 by ThePenetrator Reply
