Summer Glau
I had to wake up at 4:30 am to get ready for school! Mhmm, I am not kidding! I have to catch the bus at lke 5:30 am. I have a ONE AND A HALF HOUR bus ride to school! We get to school at SEVEN! Ouch. And I thought waking up at 6:30 and getting to school every day at 7:20 was bad...To reply to the original question, I've never pulled an all-nighter. I've stayed up late doing IAs though...I think the latest was 4 am for a math portfolio...and 2.5 hours of sleep! I learned my lesson with the type II portfolio but I still paid for it with a bad grade on my first portfolio. I try to manage my time well but sometimes it just doesn't happen =PAs for studying for tests I usually just give up at 10:30/11ish. Nothing really sinks into my head after that point so I figure it's best to just call it a night and get a decent amount of sleep...Even if I tried to stay up I wouldn't remember what I learned at 1 am anyways. Babydolleyes
Has any IB student pulled an all nighter, or close to one?The latest I've slept was 6:00 am, to complete an IA.Hahah, I have pulled sooooo many all nighters, and sometimes I don't even know if they can be classified as all-nighters because my internal clock can get screwed up very easily, and before I know it i'm sleeping for hours after school and then wake up around eight and won't go back to sleep until after school the next day. I love, love, LOVE studying during the evening/night. I despise studying during the day, I don't know why. I'm such a night owl. As much as I dislike studying in general, it's so much easier when it's dark outside. I wouldn't advise pulling an all-nighter before an exam though, I've done it once and it was for sociology during pre-ib; I managed to get a 10, but I think that had more to do with the difficulty level of the test rather than the fact that I hadn't slept at all. I think it's too risky, and I would much rather prepare a lot before hand, anticipating the exam or accept the reality of my situation the night before, and accept the consequences that follow. I've had to stay up at least 4 times without sleeping at all. :/ stupid ib. lets team up and sue them. Just because there are some students that don't stay up late procrastinating, doesn't mean that they don't care what their grades are. I have friends who turn in assignments on time because they don't procrastinate, whereas I do the opposite and miss school to finish. I should also be handing in work on time. Akayuki + Lucifel
Well, I learned in IB psych class, that getting such a low amount of sleep all the time can actually HURT your brain! Trust me! I know! My test taking abilities have been hindered by my 5-6 hours a night sleep! Yeah, and it seriously messes up your memory! AND I learned that if you have a exam the following day for a class, staying up all night and studying isn't exactly effective! Meaning that instead of losing sleep to study, it is better to get the good night's sleep than stay up all night to study!I can only second that, last mock exams I only had about 1 hour sleep as I had to finish my EE, fell asleep for the first 30 mins of my English P1... Another protip: don't ever do 3 days in a row!I pulled way too many all-nighters, even before the IB, by now I got to sleep everyday at 12-1 am, wake up at 5 once and get up at 6.30. Costello
Yeah just pulled one recently for my math portfolio. It was especially nasty since I didn't sleep much the whole week (4-5 hours) so then I was like a complete zombie. By morning (when I was all finished), I felt like I don't even care about my assignments, I just wanted to sleep. Coffee made me feel better though. AkHyldmo
Yes, for my history IA... Basically, I didn't bother going to sleep because I finished at around 6AM, and I usually wake up at 6:20AM....Needless to say, school was quite horrible that day. TheregretfulIBstudent
Haha in IB I got used to pulling soooo many all nighters! For tests, exams etc. I always used to pull all nighters And otherwise I'd get to sleep about 3/4/5 hours max on an average! Reply
Eizhowa
I know most of the students who graduated with the best IB results in my school never pulled an all nighter. Many stayed up late, untill 4-5, but usually went to bed around midnight. It is possible to procrastinate quite a lot without it resulting in an all nighter, too. Eizhowa
I knew someone who pulled an all nighter just to fall asleep right before school started and consequently missed the test:D Edited July 22, 2012 by Eizhowa Reply

Jaydon
It's really not hard to pull an all-nighter. At about 2am your energy levels start to fluctuate up again as part of your circadian rhythms, and if you have a 30-minute powernap before getting ready then you'll feel as good as new. Until about 2pm. 1 Reply
IBidiot
pulled an all nighter in 9th grade to finish a paper, and currently, I sleep 2-3 hours about 75% of the time and 4-5 hours at other times. Luckily for me, I have always had sleeping problems. Most IB kids in my class sleep like I do or manage to get 4-6 hours a night, while there a a couple others that can get 7 or even 8 hours, ut they don't spend the same amount of time on homework like I do. I usually go to sleep around 10 or 11 and then wake up between 12:30 and 3:00 (I like working throughout the night... so nice). Reply
sarahlouise
So far first exam is in 9-10 days. Not once over this whole two year period have I pulled an all-nighter. I have twice gone with four hours sleep, but they were from 1) the afterparty for my formal, and 2) a catch-up with my friends after school finished. Not for work in the slightest. I always got at least 7, normally 8-9 hours of sleep per night. I don't see how people have to lose so much sleep, or pull all-nighters because of the workload. You guys must be crazy procrastinators! Reply

I find that I don't have much time due to all the other activities I do and online courses I take concurrently with IB. At this point, I'm not sure if I want to take concurrent studies with any local universities because of the clash between that and my final exams in May. Of course there are moments of procrastination, but I generally find my time squeezed because of other competing interests. Sometimes, I wish all I had to focus on were the May exams. DanGarza
I've had many math IA being the worst experience...I actually pulled one last week! But I brought it upon myself... I flew over to another city for a music festival saturday and sunday. Flew back monday morning @ 2 am after watching The Black Keys and Florence rock out So basically caught a redeye back home, arrived at 4 AM to take a well deserved bath, breakfast and then did the weekend homework I so joyfully ignored. no regrets Reply
funny10sport
Sadly, I have pulled many. Not good though and do not recommend it at all!Worst ones were for my Math IA's, History mock IA's, previous exams, weddings (haha).... list is endless. But I haven't pulled one recently. Which is good. Reply
