I read somewhere online that if you get an E in either TOK or EE, you have to get at least 28 points overall in the IB Diploma, instead of 24. Is this true? Is it possible to pass the IB if this happens?

Hello, I'm currently working on my TOK presentation and I showed a draft of it to my teacher and he said I should change my real life situation. For reference my CKQ is focusing on scientific knowledge and its capabilities. My real life situation is Stephen Hawking's latest book Brief Answers to the Big Questions, particularly focusing on the first chapter is there a god . He said my RLS should be based on the real world and I don't really understand what he means by that, given that the book is basically a book of Hawking's collated answers to the most common questions he is asked, with many of these answers coming from interviews. Can I get some people's thoughts o…

Hi. I'm still struggling to find a decent topic for my TOK presentation. So far, I'm thinking about using this one: To what extent does religion affect our lives? Is this a good question to use? I'm not sure if it touches upon the WOKs AOKs. Thank you

How do you structure a TOK essay answering a prescribed essay title that includes the phrase "Discuss with reference to two areas of knowledge"? Should my claim refer to both areas of knowledge? Or should my claim refer to one area of knowledge, and my counterclaim to another area of knowledge? Should I maybe even split the essay into two sections: one on one AOK and another on another AOK? For example, for one KQ, should I do: Claim = AOK 1 then, Counterclaim = AOK 2 Or.... Claim = AOK 1 and AOK 2 then, Counterclaim = AOK 1 and AOK 2 Or.... AOK 1 = Claim and Counterclaim AOK 2 = Claim and Counterclaim

Hello! Right now I am working on my TOK Essay. One of my WOKs is sense perception and as a supporting example for my claim, I gave a quote by Helen Keller. Though my counter-claim is also supported by the example of Helen Keller using her touching sense to perceive the reality. My question is: Is it okay to use an example regarding the same person both for claim and counter-claim? My teacher thinks it is kind of not right and conflictual, but I do like the examples. I look forward to hearing from you soon^^

So I have this real-life situation of graffiti on Berlin wall donated to South Korea, so I came up with this KQ: How our personal knowledge influence our decisions of determining what is an acceptable vandalism? And I came up with some knowledge claims: 1. The distinguish of artwork is influenced by the cultural milieu surrounding the graffiti counterclaim: We do not know if the situation we are having now is a cultural milieu or not; it could be interpreted as a crucial part of the history, and significance could be provided by future descendants. 2. The graffiti is determined as art if it grants a new value to the canvas(wording?). counterclai…

So my TOK teacher informed us that we're not permitted to submit the TOK presentation in a form of a video, only a PowerPoint presentation is accepted by the IB. I was a bit conflicted by this new information so I asked the librarian and he said that we're allowed, as long as we present ourselves throughout the video occasionally. And then for a confirmation, I inquired the IB Coordinator and she said we're not allowed to use a video as our final presentation. So should I follow what my IB Coordinator said or should I just do what's easier for me and make a video?

I am not familiar at all with the A-F grading system and this is, in fact, the first grade like this I've ever gotten. I hear C is average/slightly below average, but I'm sort of concerned since I usually get above average grades (we've had some tests using questions from the IB databank and I did really well on those). I haven't yet gotten a chance to see how my peers did, but would you think this is something I should be worried about? Did I do bad on the essay? I know this won't affect my final points whatsoever but I still can't help but feel like this is the start of something terrible

How do you embed the knowledge framework in a TOK presentation? My KQ is: what role does language play in the acquisition of knowledge? The AOKs I am studying are the natural sciences, mathematics, and the human sciences. I already have links to personal and shared knowledge, and I explain how language is required for majority of the shared knowledge to be transmitted from one person to another. So what else should I include? My teacher said that my presentation will not score high marks because I have no links to the knowledge framework. Thanks!

So, I am willing to make my TOK presentation about young football players from poor countries that are persuaded by big leagues to join them. I feel like I lack the ideas, so far I have this : *ethics : clubs use the fact that the players are poor, so they will be tempted to earn the big money promised to them ; clubs often don't include the fact that not all the players become stars thus rich ; as soon as clubs realise that the player won't be a star, they often lose interest, become less caring etc. (quote - The kids disappear into the anonymity of the nether regions rarely to be heard of again, right now some of these boys are just being traded like horsemeat.) *reason…

Hi So my TOK teacher took a major sick leave in the middle of DP1 and has not returned to teach since. Because the school had to find a substitute for most of DP1 we didn't have much choice but to self-study TOK- also I had the old TOK book, so I was in a tough shape. My teacher this year wants us to start with TOK presentations in two weeks. So, I'm terribly stressed and need a couple words on how to do this and not just survive - like I want to thrive!!! Any tips please- like ib resources, youtube channels, websites, words of encouragement are all welcome here. My goal is to get 40+ in IB so that I can join Lanterna- and be a tutor and trave…

Hi! I'm wondering if I could get some guidance/ help with my Tok question for my presentation. My current idea is something to do with "do we tip because we want to help someone or do we tip because we feel sorry for the people living in poverty"(Real life - Should I give money to a homeless person). I'm struggling to formulate a question around this, my teacher said that what I've thought of is more around psychology. Thanks

I submitted 1200 words TOK essay four days later (Aug 28, 2018) after the deadline. This deadline is not the ib deadline but its what the teacher set. The teacher was okay with me submitting four days late because the majority of the students did not submitted on the deadline. However, today Aug 30, 2018, I decide to submit reworked TOK Essay, specifically changing the introduction, evidence used and 200 more words, then I uploaded to the candidate ib website. The teacher was not okay with me reworking on the essay and told me to submit the previous one, so he rejected my essay I uploaded on the candidate website. For me this is an unfair situation because I reworked hard…

So I'm still really confused about what exactly we have to do during TOK presentations and how we have to structure it, but one idea that I had was to explore different painting as my real life situation, or that one thing that happened where the two boys put a pair of glasses on the ground of an art gallery and everyone thought it was a piece of art. On e of the ideas I had to do for my KQ was: “To what extent do sense perception and emotion influence the value of art?" If this question good enough to explore to get a high grade? I have some stuff I could take about with it, but it doesn't sound as fancy as some of the ones I've been seeing online as really good. …

My RLS involves the exploration of languages. For instance, I realized that in a computer language (programming language), there is one thing that always performs the same task. But in an actual language (the ones we speak in), what you say means something different depending on the context, tone, and emotions. I could also possible connect this to how in scientific development, some language have certain standards, like all animal species' scientific names are the same regardless of the language spoken in. The areas of knowledge I could use are the mathematics, natural sciences, and human sciences. The ways of knowing I could use are language (of course), emoti…

Hi all I have actually chosen to do question 1 and came up with an essay plan for it already. Unfortunately, the plan couldn't make it and my teacher suggested me to try question 5. “Too much relevant knowledge in a field might be a hindrance to the production of knowledge in that field” Discuss this claim with reference to two areas of knowledge. I'm starting on the essay plan and am seriously stuck with no ideas. I was thinking maybe I could go with the counter-argument where knowledge may not be needed at all to hinder the production of knowledge or too much knowledge from another AOK would hinder the production of knowledge in another AOK. As for …

Hi all, I'm currently doing a mock TOK presentation and I have gotten my main RLS and the RLS that I will link everything back to in the end. The AoKs that I am focusing on are Ethics and partially History. The WoKs that I chose are reason and emotion. Specifically, I am trying to focus on how ethical decisions can be justified by reason and emotion. I still need news example for the counterclaim and claim. I have two claims; The first being that reason is the most reliable justification for an ethical decision and the second being that emotion is not a reliable justification for ethical decisions. My two counterclaims are basically the opposite of the claims. …
