Hi. I just have one simple question to ask. Are you allowed to read off your script in the TOK presentation, as long as you look up and engage the audience? I could not find a site anywhere saying that you are not allowed to read off from your script, but I just want to make sure. Thanks

Ethical theories are proposed by different philosophers illustrating dilemmas, often in the mind experiment. What about ethical facts? Are ethical facts = ethical judgment?

Hello! if my TOK presentation's RQ is to what extent can we understand love, and my AOK is religion, how can I better do it? For example, I want to take Buddhism and Christianity, can I just compare their views on love? Would it be enough? It's just I don't really get the concept of making the presentation when you need to answer your RQ by AOK. How can I answer my RQ just by comparing to religion views?

So I have a KQ- To what extent is natural sciences objective? (objective as in free from personal bias or interpretation) My two perspectives would be a) that the aok knowledge is more objective and b) the knowledge is less objective. What is it in the knowledge framework or WOK that makes these two perspectives different? Is it the link to personal knowledge or scope/application? Or a WOK like emotion that influences the objectivity of the knowledge?

Hi All, I'm in Year 10 Pre-IB TOK, I've got the following RLS: https://www.technologyreview.com/s/603502/two-infants-treated-with-universal-immune-cells-have-their-cancer-vanish I've got a task in which I have to link the article to the AOK's. I know it's natural sciences, but how could I expand on that? Could someone please provide a sample paragraph? Thanks, George

I have to do my TOK presentation in 3 weeks and I'm really struggling to come up with a main KQ. I have my RLS and my AoK is ethics. I have a few KQs that I thought of but I don't think they're quite right. Help please? RLS: For 20 years, single mother Donella Knox cared for her severely autistic daughter, Ruby. For years, she fought to get the best health care for her that she could. Donella Knox felt endlessly helpless, and hopeless, about Ruby's deteriorating health and suffering. She travelled across New Zealand, and even to the United States, seeking expert help. In May 2016, Donella Knox murdered her autistic daughter, Ruby. In December 2017, Donel…

Are they necessary? I have been told they are for the essay, and I did include a few of them in there. And the Assessment Device for the essay does talk about "relevant knowledge questions", in plural. However, the Assessment Instrument for the presentation only mentions a singular question. So, will I be okay if I have only one question, but I have multiple RLSs, and I explore it from different perspectives using multiple AOKs and WOKs?

Hi, all From recent news and the general reception of large corporations capitalizing on consumers' access to the internet, my partner and I have decided on the topic of net neutrality for our presentation Here's our real life situation: https://www.wired.com/2015/11/comcast-may-have-found-a-major-net-neutrality-loophole/ Subsequently, we were able to form our main knowledge question to be answered, which was: To what extent does the medium of communication impact the relationship between personal and shared knowledge? After some in-depth brainstorming and analysis of our real-life situation, we can definitely see that our RLS has significant pers…

Okay, so I'm doing my essay on the third prescribed title " Should key events in the historical development of AOK always be judged by the standards of there time?" l was thinking if l can have a claim one AOK and a counterclaim in another AOK? Like I say that it shouldn't be judged in science and should be judged in ethics. In other words, 1 AOK is the claim and the other is the counterclaim. Position undecided?

During my Global Politics class I began contemplating about why we have the "Minority Vote". Basically what I'm thinking is that : We worked so hard to remove segregation from Society, but yet we reinstall it in our political system? Was it ever removed from our political system? Why is the "Minority", generally the African-American population and doesn't the Asian, Hispanic, Native American, etc.? I think back to when my mom had all these stock exchange shows and news channels constantly being playing on our TV, around the time of the last Presidential Election (Donald Trump vs. Hillary Clinton, in case someone is reading this in the distant future, and if you …

We are currently doing the unit of Art for TOK, but our teacher always bring up some sensitive political topics for us to discuss. And the discussion would either become supper heated or just a dead silence. I had an intense discussion with my teacher in class, and it ended horribly. After several talks with my teacher and the coordinator at my school, they still refuse to get rid off all the sensitive topics due to we have to be well-rounded. I am considering leaving the class if similar topics come up again, because they were saying I'm being too emotional when I was discussing within the class. Do you think this is a good idea? How bad is it if no one in my class likes…

Hello, My class is started to talk about TOK presentations and I have a hard time coming up with a good knowledge question. My focus is on consciousness and ethics. I saw a GREAT tv series, "Westworld" and got an inspiration from it. I was wondering: what makes us humans humans and if AI (artificial intelligence) gain consciousness does that mean that they are human and need to be treated as one (which kind of connects to ethics). Any good knowledge questions for this??

I have chosen this topic to write this essay on. “It is only knowledge produced with difficulty that we truly value.” To what extent do you agree with this statement? I understand it to a certain extent, but I am having difficulty going in depth about it, especially when it comes the WOK and AOK. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I also have to fill out this TOK Essay Planning Frame. Can someone look over it and help me out. I have attached the file. Your thoughts on this question is welcomed. What do you have to say about this Question? Thank you! ToK Essay Planning 2016.docx

Hello, I am strongly considering writing topic 6 for my TOK essay, I have my 1st draft due on 21.11. I liked this topic since the very beginning, although I was very cautios when choosing it. To be honest, I also considered topics 1, 2 and 4. 1 and 2 seem quite easy and I am aware that lots of IB students write them this year. Topic 4 is quite difficult and ambigious, even though my teacher tried to explain it to us, and that I felt it may be quite a good topic to write about, I am still strongly for topic 6. I am planning to choose natural sciences and philosophy as AoKs. It seems like a problem to me, however, to find the KQs. Well I'd find 2 or 3, but I am no…

Hey to whoever is reading this, So my chosen prescribed title is “Humans are pattern-seeking animals and we are adept at finding patterns whether they exist or not” (adapted from Michael Shermer). This is my practice essay title for my first IB year. I understood what this question is basically asking. But what AOK's can be used here is something I've been racking my brains for. The prescribed title is "Should key events in the historical development of areas of knowledge be judged by the standards of their time?" I created the knowledge question of " What role do ethics and emotion play when judging historical events?" How can I develop a knowledge claim or issue for my IB TOK Presentation? My knowledge question is How do personal and shared knowledge influence the process of artistic creation ? And my subsidiary question is "At what point does inspiration become plagiarism?" With that being said, my topic is Plagiarism or Accusations of Plagiarism. Hi, My TOK paper draft is due in a little over a week. My teacher said that we need to cite our examples in our paper by referencing the teacher who told us this information. Additionally, do we have to use real life situations that we discussed in our classes?

Hey, everyone! I'm in IB1 right now and have my first ever presentation soon. Since its the first presentation of the year, we were given a research question by our ToK teacher, which is: How do different Ways of Knowing interact in the Area of Natural Science? My partner and I chose "reason" and "language" as our WOK's and I will be exploring reason, and the are of natural science is astronomy, specifically Newton's Law of Gravity. My question is, how in the world do I connect reason to Newton's Law of Gravity? Language seems pretty straight forward, but I just can't wrap my head around reason...
