Hi can somebody help me please! I have this knowledge issue with my group, first of all Im not really sure that its good but apart from that I also need a real life situation that is strongly related to the KI. The KI is this: ¿Is the individual who determines reality or it exist independently from him? If anyone can help me that would save my life, thanks!

Sorry to have to post this again, I had to get the title right! Hi all, I'm having a hard time figuring out the overall outline of the presentation, I have yet to figure out my real life situation. My question to you guys is, do you know of any real life situations related to a universal concept of happiness? I have started to think about concentrating on Aristotle's pursuit of happiness and Confucius quote "To be truly happy and contented, you must let go of what it means to be happy or content." as my theories or maybe even utilitarianism. In addition, would it be a good choice to explore the 4 AOK's and concentrate on one? Second question, would the structure of my pre…

COULD that be seen as a real-life situation? i thought that in this presentation could be included topics as emotion, religion, reason etc.... thogh not sure if the idea would be acceptable, what do u think, or is this a too wide thing to talk about? hmmm

Hi all, We'll be starting our presentations in the next few weeks and our teacher just basically left us in the dark and threw us in the deep end. I'd like to do my presentation on the safety of nuclear power generation, especially in light of the recent events in Fukushima. However, I'm having some trouble in figuring out in what way I should approach the topic. How should I start?

Hello all, I have a ToK presentation coming up in about a week and a half. I've chosen my real-life situation as the event when John Brown and his family decided to kill the inhabitants of a home at nigh, and I was wondering if anybody could suggest a knowledge issue for this? I have one and it is 'How does emotion influence our reasoning?' but I don't really know if that is the best one to use. it also has to be an 8 minute presentation.

Hi, I have a tok presentation soon and I am not really sure what it is all about. It is my second one but last time the entire class did really bad (not a single one over 14/20 and most were lower than that). I have a feeling that our teacher knows how to grade but not really to explain. I have a good knowledge issue that has to do with history being cyclical or linear but I am not sure how to approach it. My partners and I were thinking about talking about what historians say are the driving forces of history but someone told me that it would be better to do case studies. I am totally unsure of what he meant, but I'm sure he is right somehow. Did he mean case studies as…

Nearly 20 students at my school submitted the essay onto the IB website by the March 15 deadline, but they were not approved by the teacher in time; he was locked out of the system. Therefore, their status is "pending" on the IB website. Has this happened to anyone before? If so, what happened?

1. Consider the extent to which knowledge issues in ethics are similar to those in at least one other area of knowledge. 2. How important are the opinions of experts in the search for knowledge? 3.“Doubt is the key to knowledge” (Persian Proverb). To what extent is this true in two areas of knowledge? 4. To what extent do we need evidence to support our beliefs in different areas of knowledge? 5.To what extent are the various areas of knowledge defined by their methodologies rather than their content? 6.“There are no absolute distinctions between what is true and what is false”. Discuss this claim. 7. How can we recognise when we have made progress in the search for knowl…

My knowledge issue is about culture and what we perceive as right or wrong. I thought it'd be pretty simple, yet my teacher was pretty harsh on my scaffold. The biggest problem were the derived knowledge issue. It turns out that my derived knowledge issues were too off topic. I was talking about along the lines of animals/eating animals, etc, but my derived knowledge issues went from right and wrong of sex before marriage to right and wrong of physical punishment, because I completely read the scaffold instructions wrong. Now I am a bit loss. my DKI has to be related to my real life situation and KI? If yes, could anyone give me a bit more detail on this, or some examples…

Hello I'm doing my IB diploma in french at school, I have not had any pre-IB courses, nor any of those pre-Tok/Philo classes either We were just thrown into the Lion's Den and expected to live in the IB world-- not such a great transition, I must say Anywho, my ToK teacher always stresses about using proper "IB/TOK" terms, such as the ones in the "Areas of Knowledge" (Domaine de la connaissance), and the "Ways of knowing" (modes de connaissance). So, for instance, I guess I'd talk about how I am using LANGUAGE to communicate my ideas and such (so PEARL) and then the 6 areas of knowledge (the 6 "big" groups). But what other IB/TOK vocabulary exists?? It would really hel…

we are a little confused (to say the least) about out TOK knowledge issue project. Our topic is Wikileaks and our knowledge issue is: How do we know if it is wrong to censor information and at what point do countries have an obligation to protect humans by censorship. Now .... we are very confused about how to present and develop this topic. We have really good thoughts and ideas on this topic because we are well informed, however we do not know how to approach this project. How have people presented in the past, and how do we tie this knowledge issue into the ways of knowing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. We are completely lost Thanks so much!!

I have chosen to do essay title number 9, which states: Discuss the role of language and reason in history. My main claim on this title is that when language is manipulated, it affects the individual's ability to reason. This is by the means of teaching (Canadian teacher will usually mainly teach the Canadian perspective on WWII, so other perspectives unknown) and by the means of propaganda (manipulative language controls the person's ability to reason, such as in North Korea, WWII in Germany, US and Canada). But I am having difficulty coming up with counter-claims without sounding redundant.I am also having difficulty thinking of a third claim I can make. I thought of co…

Hi, I'm in H3 and am new to TOK. Well, I thought of something that I came across on the internet, a really great topic title/question, a lot better than my original one. "Does emotion cloud judgment or is emotion the basis of judgment?" I began thinking, but could not really come up with a good Real Life issue, and I started to have some difficulties on deciding what I should do. I brainstormed a few ideas, but I am not entirely sure on how I could present this, and some suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated! Suicide bombers – Their religion “justifies” their actions, and their emotions and consensus say it is the “right path” Kamikaze – What rationalizes their…

I definetely want to do my TOK presentation on medical ethics and wanted to initially do it on "How fair is it to award pro-bono plastic reconstructive surgery to a handful of patients?" The idea was that pro-bono surgery helps the life of one person and drains the resources of the hospital or the "main d'oeuvre" of the doctor. The work of that doctor could go towards helping the general population and not favouring one patient by giving surgery. The person needing cosmetic reconstructive surgery could be turned down because a doctor may have more urging cases to deal, such as those of life and death? I realised that this is isn't so much of an issue because if you think …

my presentation is in a week. our teacher told us to think of a real life example first and then to find a tok question and KI. My real life example is about a soldier who was excetued for murder about 10-15 years ago. However, a recent confession by the murderer proved that the soldier was wrongly convicted. There are rumors that the government had pressured the military to solve the case quickly and that was why the soldier was convicted very quickly. Im very interested in law, ethics, morals, reason, emotion...but im not sure how to link it to the example...the most important thing for me now is to find a good question but i cant seem to think of one to do with the law…

I am having my TOK presentation in less than a week, on the topic 'Humanity v. Technology: Crisis of Identity and Values in Todayʼs Technological World' To what extent is scientific reasoning justifiably influencing our value judgements and perception of knowledge about social behaviours? The rationale is that along the rapid scientific discoveries and development of technology, we humans are changing our thinking New weapons are developed; casualties in war have never been as great. Theories about how the way human exploit the resources and the wasteful lifestyle accelerate the eradication of the earth appear more and more frequently. We seem to have lost ourselves in m…

Hi! So I was checking out the different posts there are for the N10-M11 ToK titles and I haven't found any one regarding this particular title: 7. How can we recognise when we have made progress in the search for knowledge? Consider two contrasting areas of knowledge. I wanna write something on this but I'm stuck; I just don't know what to do or how to start. My ToK teacher doesn't teach us anything (we didn't even know we needed to have a journal and we never even had a "discussion" on any topic) so I have no idea on how to approach anything. I read the advice etc but I panic when I see the blank document. HELP ME!

Hey guys My TOK presentation is in about a week and I had planned to do it on the ethics of gay marriage however, someone before me did polygamy and she essentially covered the same knowledge issues that I was planning to cover. So, whilst I still maintain an interest in sexuality and its morality, I need to find a new topic that covers different knowledge issues. I'm currently considering homosexuality in animals but I'm struggling with the knowledge issues for that one. Basically, my question is what do you think would be a good way to overcome this and could you suggest some topics/knowledge issues related to sexuality? Thanks in advance, Kate

I seriously need help because I'm so completely lost on how to do this. And asking my teacher has only left me more confused x/ The 'thing' we have so far, since it's neither a specific real life situation nor a knowledge issue, is "How does the media affect self-image?" How do I go about making a knowledge issue from this and how many real life situations can I have? I wanted to talk about from advertisements to movies to tv shows but should I focus on one instead? (two person group) Edit: came up with a knowledge issue question, I think. To what extent do outside forces have an effect on an individual’s perception?

Also, I'm planning on using the following areas of knowledge: the arts, natural sciences, human sciences, and ethics. Do I need to reference any Ways of Knowing in my paper?
