Gee :)
At my school, pretty much everyone going for the diploma has to take the same courses, as we only offer Math SL, Physics SL, English HL, Bio HL, Film SL and HL, English HL, History SL/HL, Spanish SL and Env. Studies SL. (this is only our 3rd year of offering IB)It aggravates me as I want to go into evo devo and neuropsych so a Philosophy or Psychology HL course would be awesome. Or even Chem HL, I love chemistry.Does your school offer every IB course?Math,HL SL & studiesEnglish HL & SLHistory both levelsSpanish SLFrench HL & SLBio,Chem,PHysics HL & SLBusiness & Management both levelsITGS HL & SLGeography SL & HLEnvinmntal Sys & Soc. HyperInSugar
IB at Aloha College (Marbella, Spain):Group 1; Español A1 (HL,SL); English A1 (HL, SL)Group 2: English B (HL,SL); Spanish A2 (SL only), Spanish B (HL,SL) and Spanish ab initio (only offered at SL)Group 3: History (HL), Historia (HL), Geography (HL), Business & Management (HL), Economics (HL) and ITGS (HL)Group 4: Biology (HL,SL), Physics (HL, SL) and Environmental Systems & Societies (taught exclusively at SL).Group 5: Mathematical Studies (only at SL), Maths (SL and HL), Further Maths (only offered for a selected group of people at HL)Group 6: Business & Management (HL), Chemistry (HL,SL), Visual Arts (HL), Theatre (HL), Music (I know it's offered only at HL, but I don't think anyone took it this year), French B (HL) and German B (HL).Yes, my school does offer quite a lot of subject choices, but I think is because they've been offered the IB since 1990 so they have quite the experience and I think is why they offer quite a lot options, yet I do miss more A1 language options (they advice against self-taught Group 1 subjects), English A2, Psychology or Philosophy, Social and Cultural Anthropology and History of the Americas. Also, I recall that someone told me they would be one of the first to offer the option of doing the new IBCC course in a few years time. nametaken
My school offers:Group 1- EnglishGroup 2- Spanish, French, German, Italian ab initio & Mandarin ab initioGroup 3- History, Geography, Economics, Psychology, Philosophy & Social and cultural anthropology Group 4- Biology, Chemistry, Physics, ESS & DTGroup 5- Mathematical Studies & MathsGroup 6- Visual Arts, Music, Theatre, Chemistry, Psychology, SpanishAs you can see from the above, my school is very diverse in its subjects. While people went with what I consider 'soft' subjects, like 'Theatre', I had to live out on the edge...and opt for the tough, more rigorous subjects like HL Maths for example. And that's not all. HL Physics and Chemistry, were then natural for me to take as follow on subjects. Edited April 11, 2011 by nametaken Reply
