Selin Es
Hey!! My school don't offers Economics in its IB Diploma Programme As I'm really Interested in Economics, I was just wondering, whether I maybe could self-study Economics SL.. Somebody who does this? Is it too dificult or possible? Thanks for answers! Reply
Andyboi
Hey! Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that you can't study a subject in IB if there is no class. If there is no class, then there is no teacher, and if there is no economics teacher then nobody would be able to grade your Internal Assessments which is a requirement. However, you could technically study economics in your free time if you're really motivated to do so. Sorry :/ 2 Reply
Peanut Butter Jelly
Yup, you cant self-study save for certain languages Reply
Victorious
If you really do decide to do it in your own free time, the best book would be the IB Course Companion. That book does wonders. Reply
Selin Es
noooo Well, I think I'll try to do it in my free time.. Thank you very much for your answers and the book commendation !! Reply
Goncalo Santos
i'm sure you can do it as self-taught. but ask to your IB coordinator! and if you are taking Economic SL as self-taught I think you have really good chances of takin a 5 or 6 1 Reply
Selin Es
Really??! Well, I better ask my coordinator, but thank you Reply
mayank06090
even if you get the permission to do it on your own, which i doubt , i think it will be very difficult. Remember economics even at sl is a difficult course, think twice before you take a decision 1 Reply
Iryna
I'd recommend to try it and see if you are one of those people who just understand all theories straight away and are naturally good at economics, if so you will have no problem with SL. My teacher is horrible and very bad at explaining so I basically do self-study of economics HL and am predicted a 7 (also got a 7 in both mock exams). IB course companion is a good book that explains everything in detail, sometimes even too detailed but I guess that is just what you need if you do not have a teacher. 1 Reply
Wide Eyed Wanderer
I take economics HL, and to me the course is a breeze. No one in my school takes it seriously either, it's an easy 7.Most of economics is common sense and the other bit is interpreting diagrams. I'm not sure if you're allowed to self study group 3 subjects, but it's better you ask your programme coordinator. If you can find other people who also want to take economics, why don't you request your school to offer the course? My school does that if there are 5 students who want to study a particular subject.Good luck though, econs is a fun course! 1 Reply
Fatih313
You need a teacher for economics. Or at least somebody to teach you. It's totally different as compared to business where you can just study it without a teacher. 1 Reply
Selin Es
Thank you very much for your answers!! I guess, there isn't another opportunity than writing a big mail to Germany to really find out what things are like at my school Reply
Peanut Butter Jelly
yeah, one of my Aunt took home economics thrity years ago. She is managing home affairs quite well today. I think same goes to IB students, if you have the passion inside you go for it!OP is talking about economics, not home economics.Deleted post? Lol, you can't change what I have already quoted.
