JacobSewell
This is really random, but why is it that some people call HL Math "HL Maths". Is there any difference or is it just something that varies from country to country? Reply
vshang
The latter; short but sweet, no? LOL. Reply
elmar
Because HL Math is comprised of so much math, they couldn't bare to identify it as a single Math course and universally decided to refer to it as HL Maths, respecting the course and all of the individual math courses that make it superior. Sounds believable, right? But I just say HL Math. Reply
Redstar
http://www.dailywritingtips.com/math-or-maths/Pretty much it varies from country to country. To put it simply, it's "maths" in British English, and it's "math" in American English. Reply
saunders is god
Yeah..and in India we call it maths....but that sounds gay so we all call it math...or rather the the "TOUGHEST HL IN THE WORLD"!!! two things: firstly, calling it maths is not gay, its just what most non-americanised countries call it secondly, by calling it gay you are suggesting it is inferior, therefore showing that you are homophobic im not an activist but please leave homophobia of this website 4 Reply
theloserwins
Yeah..and in India we call it maths....but that sounds gay so we all call it math...or rather the the "TOUGHEST HL IN THE WORLD"!!! Not the toughest maths in the world. At least I know the Hong Kong A-Level AMaths are much harder than IB Maths HL Reply
Tilia
We had a discussion abou how to pronounce it and concluded that it can be very hard to pronounce "maths", so the american version is probably better. Reply

For proof, see his comment degrading gay people. Also, "gay" is currently only used to classify homosexual people. (It's meaning of "happy" isn't a modern usage, and he obviously wasn't trying to describe the word "Maths" as happy.)Anyone who uses it to describe something that sucks is also using it to degrade homosexual people, which is rude and unnecessary.TLDR: Gay is not a synonym for sh**ty. genepeer
Gay is not a synonym for sh**ty.Language evolves and now it actually is synonymous with that. Like it or not (Its meaning of "homosexual" isn't its only modern usage, and he obviously wasn't trying to be homophobic.) Reply
