Simran Venkatraman
Yeah, I wanted to know if knowing the exact values of comparative cell sizes was mandatory in the syllabus. Also, any tips on studying Units 2, 3, 4 (reference videos, notes online, animations? ) Any kind of help would be appreciated Reply
Egos
Do not forget to remember:1 millimeter (mm) = 10-3 meters1 micrometer (μm) = 10-3 millimeters 1 nanometer (nm) = 10-3 micrometersThen have a look at this and you know, just memorise it. It makes total sense if you actually understand it. So you might not even need to memorise it.A molecule = 1 nmThickness of cell membrane = 10 nmViruses = 100 nmBacteria = 1μmOrganelles = up to 10 μmEukaryotic cells = up to 100 μmhttp://ibguides.com/...2.1-cell-theoryThis is what it says in the Biology Syllabus (in case you do not have it http://occ.ibo.org/i...ui_0903_1_e.pdf):Appreciation of relative size is required, such as molecules (1 nm), thickness of membranes (10 nm), viruses (100 nm), bacteria (1 μm), organelles (up to 10 μm), and most cells (up to 100 μm). The three-dimensional nature/shape of cells should be emphasised. Other useful websites:http://click4biology...c4b/2/cell2.htm - I personally do not find it too useful but if you do not get confused because of too much reading, then this is fine.http://www.scribd.co...2501655/Biology - My favourite! My exams are in May so I am revising from this source.http://i-biology.net/ibdpbio/02-cells/ - If you want to find questions and a teacher who writes online, this is the website you should check out.http://www.youtube.c...er/SCScienceVid - Unfortunately this is only SL but useful I guess..
