Anyone considering NOT going to university and doing something different after IB?

Just curious to know if there is anyone who does not have aspirations to go to university.

People so often ask 'which university are you going to?' rather than 'do you want to go to university?'

... just wondered if people have other paths in mind - further courses at college, travelling, apprenticeship. interested to know ;)

Why the hell would you take IB if you dont want to go to university

hopefully we shall find out if/when people reply to the post ;)

its not completely insane, you can still get jobs straight from high school with IB diploma or equivalent qualifications.

Even though I definitely want to go to University, I do have backup plans.

Coast Guard

Fireman

Welder

Office Drone (this could happen even if I graduate from University) :P

I kind of wanted to take a train ride across the country, and another one into Canada before University though. I also thought of taking a "gap year" but I would probably forget everything I learned in school for the past 12-13 years. Good bye fractions... ;)

To quote The Narrator from Fight Club:

May I never be complete. May I never be content. May I never be perfect. Deliver me, Tyler, from being perfect and complete.

Well, people might not go to uni after doing the IB because they might realise that intellectual pursuits are not satisfying to them. I suppose TOK would have taught them that... some people enjoy being nerds, others become nerds to realise that they're not.

I desperately wanted to take a gap year. I found all these amazing programs. Taking language courses in your country of choice, travelling, community service and conservation projects... And then my parents came down on me. Based on how much they've spent on my education already, they weren't prepared to "fork out" for me to "have fun and achieve nothing". Sigh. Only way I could take a gap year is for me to fund it myself.

However, now that I'm applying to Australia (starts in Feb/March) I'll get almost 8 months off, a kind of mini gap year (: So excited for that!

Be nice to breathe a bit after IB. I don't want to rush from one intense course right into another, I'd like to live a bit.

Finally someone who asked the right question.

Personally, I would love nothing more than to never see another school in my life. Then I see

Why the hell would you take IB if you dont want to go to university

and die a little inside.

The IB was the better option available at a lot of schools, but after doing it, I don't think that intellectual persuits are best for me. I have no idea what I will do after school, but if I have my own way, it will be as fun, exciting and non-related to school as possible.
