momo521
I was just wondering, do your ToK teachers freak out about the paper we write? Like...our teacher says "this is an examination so you have to write the whole thing at school and cant take anything home."Is it like that for you guys or are you allowed to write it at home and turn it in on a final due date? I think its stupid to make us write the paper in the computer lab at school and not be able to save to flash drives. I don't think it will make that bi of a difference whether or not we write it at home or school. Reply
moneyfaery
Err... it's an essay, not an essay-based exam, so yes, we do write our essays at home. Think of it similar to the WL essays. Surely, no one is forced to write those at school? Reply
__inthemaking
Ours was distributed just like any other essay so we got to take it home. Reply
Aether
Yeah, your teacher is kind of weird. I never worked on my essay in classes, even though we were given time every once in a while, I never wrote a single word hehe. School can be soo... hmmm.. distracting. DeStijl
That's VERY bizarre. I agree with Irene on the basis that the Theory of Knowledge essays should be treated similarly to World Lit, in that they're assignments that should be done on your own time. Being forced to complete the entire essay solely in class seems a bit...off to me. Does your teacher have any logical reason for that rule? hanz
your teacher is weird . we sometimes do them at home and sometimes in class , but it is still better to do them in class, but you will write better stuff when uyou do them home Reply
Mahuta ♥
That is not allowed. If they do that for the real thing yuo have the right to object. Because everyone writes better at home, well most people. If they're worried about plaigarism then thats stupid because its getting scanned anyways. SharkSpider
We wrote drafts in class, finished them at home, so that the teachers knew it was our work, and that's all. Reply
deissi
There are no rules saying that the essay should be written in school. However, I don't think that IBO policy denies schools from doing this either. To be honest, it still is at least close to the most ridiculous thing about IB that I've ever heard. greaterthaninfinity
I think you should probably email IBO about your school, get a statement or something, and show your IB coordinator. The thought of that is totally ridiculous and completely unfair to the student body at your school. Reply
Ruan Chun Xian
Don't bother emailing IBO, they don't usually answer (or if they do they are unhelpful) with school-based problems like this. As Joel said, there's no rule saying that they can't make you do it at school. And there are many ridiculous things about IB. Reply
Chesire_Cat
In our school, a ToK teacher makes the kids write the "practice" essays in class, so that they get used to thinking quickly. But they get to do their final essay at home, otherwise I'm pretty sure they'd complain. Reply
Sandwich
Can you not point out to your teacher that you'd get better marks with more time at home? o.OThey can't really want you to fail! Reply
