May Purple
Hi, I'm currently in pre-IB and I have to choose my IB courses for next year. I know for sure that I want these classes: - Spanish AB Initio - Math SL - Economics SL - English HL - Chem HL For my last subject, I'm not sure if I should choose Bio HL or Art HL. I want to study dietetics in university. I was first going to choose Bio HL but we had a talk about classes with our IB coordinator and he said not to choose classes based just on what you think you'll need for university. So now I'm confused on what to pick. I enjoy both bio and art. I plan to study at a Canadian university. kw0573
Taking both biology and chemistry HL can strongly supplement an application to nutrition, health sciences, biology, or pre-med. Unless you can guarantee a 7 in Art HL AND applying to not very competitive schools, Art HL does not seem a safe choice. Your coordinator's advice does not generally apply to science degrees because they just need more requirements for same quality of education. Sope
I'd say you should go with Bio HL. What your coordinator meant to say was "Choose the subjects that you enjoy". While that is true, you can't just ignore what universities want. Reply
