karram
Hello. This is my first post!! =) I have to start on my Math SL Type II Portfolio. I'm choosing between BMI or fishing rods. Which one is easier to do? I mean, like for example is BMI mainly about matrix? How about fishing rods? Thanks in advance! Reply
eblake
HELLO =) I have no idea what fishing rods is about, but, I did the BMI one and it's about data modeling. It's no big deal, you have your TI and regression, as well as Excel. For me that one was really easy. Reply
npond
what equation did you use to model the behaviour of the graph? did you use sine? i know how to turn on the regression, but i don't understand what it means. can you please help clarify? npond
this is for the BMI index... were you able to find the BMI of others countries? our class is having trouble finding the info. thanks! Reply
i know how to turn on the regression, but i don't understand what it means. can you please help clarify?
your teacher is meant to tell you/you could have googled/here is what it means: you use the regression feature after you've entered the data points you've been given. there are several regression features on your TI: linear, cubic, whatever. you make a judgment here on which one to use, you use it, and your screen gives you an equation plus a bunch of stuff. what you're looking for is the R-squared value . if it is 1, it means the equation that your calculator gave you models the data you put in exactly. subsequently, if it's like 0.99997, it means the equation fits yours data well but not perfectly. lower than that, you probably chose the wrong regression. Abu
eblake, stop helping npond, he should be doing the portfolio by himself or seek his teacher's guidance. Reply
mrigankkabra
i only did the fishing rods one.. and I did not like that much. For one criteria, where you have to suggest if u can use it in another situation, you just CANNOT think of one... and very few people scored high on this compared to how they scored on the type 1 portfolios. i did not do the BMI one, so cant say anything about that. npond
i already asked my teacher about the regression but couldn't remember what she said. sorry. and about the sine thing, some people are using cos, some sine, i just wanted to compare, but i guess now that i understand how to use the regression, i won't have to compare. on the sheet it says you have "to find the BMI data of females from another country." thanks so much for your time. roro
In my opinion BMI is much better. I did not like fishing rod very much. BMI will help u with further studies of mathematics. Reply
