maroctam
Depends on if you're Maths Studies, SL or HL! Maths only has one piece of course work for all three levels, but it's different for each, comparatively. Well, he posted it in the math studies forum, so presumably he's at that level. Also the math SL and HL IAs are identical in structure - the only thing that differs is the level of mathematics.Anyway, back to OP's original question. For the Math Studies IA you it's recommended you have a research question in the form "How does X affect Y?" (or something similar) - this is probably the easiest way to do well on the IA, but I don't know for sure. Anyway after formulating a research question you want quantitative data with which you'll be able to perform the statistical tests that you learnt in class. A good way to get the "commitment" points is to have a survey through which you'll gather your data which shows your personal involvement. After having gathered data you want to do the statistical tests; you should have 2 or 3 complex ones (like the chi-squared, t-test, pearson correlation test) - this will guarantee full marks for the math part.Just make sure your IA is coherent: that you make logical jumps from step to step and include all your working out for all your tests and calculations. Here's a more detailed guideline on the forum - it's very helpful! I recommend you read it. 1 Reply
