thehaikubandit
What assessment is there for SL maths? I know we have at least one exam and 1IA but are there any copies of the syllabus floating around? Reply
timtamboy63
You must do at least 2 IAs (Type 1, Type 2), and you also have to sit the external exam (Paper 1, Paper 2). I'm fairly sure Maths SL doesn't have a P3. 1 Reply
thehaikubandit
What do the IAs consist of? Our tutorial teacher hasn't got around to telling us anything yet and given that I have five months to go, I figure I need to know this. carpediem
Type 1 is basically a task which makes you find several ways to work out a pattern, e.g. sequences and stellar numbers. (There are copies of the actual IA sheet around the web.)Type 2 is exactly the same as Type 1 except that it consists of something called 'modeling', which in some cases is using graphs (the models) to fit towards sets of data that is given on the task sheet. For both of these, you need to be able to relate it to the 'situation' given, so you can't just state numbers or formulas. You also need to be able to explain how and why you did something. The focus on the IAs in not on your mathematical skills, but the justification and application of those skills. 1 Reply
