They usually just rewrite their notes from class, meaning they organize them better, maybe colour-code them, write them neater so they're easier to read, etc. They also cut out some of the easy examples so they can focus on the harder ones. I guess rewriting over again helps some people remember better but I think that it's not a good study method just by itself because you're not applying anything, you're just recopying.The most effective way to study for math, IMO, is to do lots of questions to review what you have learned.
