custardapple101
i have a few questions regarding IB Math HL. What is a math protfolio? Does everyone need to make one? Is it true IB Math HL is also AP Calc AB? Plus how many years do I have to take IB Math HL?Thanks. Reply
Mahuta ♥
All IB courses are 2 years long.A portfolio is an obligatory part..and it represents 20% of the total grade. It's coursework you have to do on a case given by the IBO. However, don't worry about it until you have to. I am not sure about the common things between AP and IB Math. 1 Reply
JoeG
While they are both difficult courses, they are still not the same. I don't think that AP uses Internal Assessments, only the exam for AP matters. Reply
adletaY
AP Calc AB and IB HL Maths Core cover the same amount of calculus.AP Calc BC and IB HL Maths Core + Series and Differential Equations cover the same amount of calculus. ∫ Jorge δx
Also, IB Math HL covers more material outside the area of calculus. The core goes through all the basic (and not so basic) concepts of functions, trigonometry, matrices, vectors, statistics, probability and more. Also, there's a paper 3 among the IB exams completely devoted to an option your class (or your teacher) chooses. The option my class is doing is series and differential equations, but there's also discrete mathematics, further statistical math and such. timtamboy63
Overall, IB covers more I think, but AP focuses a lot more on graphing and interpreting graphs, whereas IB is more algebraic. Reply
