I've found error bars extremely difficult, can someone explain the process to me?

Our group is doing our project on how much energy is saved by recycling at school for one month. We were wondering what the best approach to this would be. Our plan is to look at it cost-wise, but we'd appreciate any sites, ideas, or comments on how to present this or what we should be looking for on the internet. Thanks!

Help me!!! I've done a thermometric titration calculation of HCl against NaOH and CH3COOH against NaOH...my final results gave me the volumes i used (cm3), the temperature change of the mixture throughout the titration, and the peak temperature of each titration. In other words, we are meant to find the concentration and enthalpy change of neutralization of each acid. Normally, this would be really easy, but how am I supposed to calculate the number of moles of each acid if i only know the volume and mass number of each? Does the volume become the mass? aghhhh I'M SO LOST

Ok, so I don't have the best chemistry teacher in the world... Could someone briefly explain what a van der Waals bond/force is? We've written notes during class, and mine say that van der Waal forces appear when vibrating electrons circulate around the nucleus of an atom, because of attractions to another atom. We've also written that "van der Waal bonds hate water." Could someone briefly explain what a hydrogen/dipole bond is? First off I'd like to know if a hydrogen bond is the same as a dipole bond, 'cause I think our teacher said so. The notes we've written say that dipole bonds appear when molecules are attracted to eachother's opposite charges. We've also writ…

This is for a planning lab investigating the effect of acid rain on building materials. I'm planning to use the type of material as my independent variable. I know that limestone/sandstone/marble are significantly affected by acid rain, but are there any types of building materials that AREN'T really affected by acid rain? I can't think of any since I know acid rain corrodes metals (iron/copper) too...

So it is almost a deadline when i have to hand in all my lab reports and i wanted to improve them a bit.. i downloaded a few usefull noted about lab reports, but i couln't find any information about inaccuracies and how important it is to include them.. i mean i did include the possibility of inaccuracies during the measurement, but as i know there is also a possibility to convert them into percentage inaccuracies and then use it during calculations.. this should lead to calculation inaccuracy or something like that.. however, during some experiments there is a lot of calculation, so does this mean that I still have to go through each substitution and multiplication …

I ook IB chemistry and switched from HL to SL quiet early in the year. NOw I regret my choice so much, as I really like the course and it is on of the easier ones to get your head around. What do you think of it?

If you can convince your group to do this idea, you'll never really have to do a group IV lab if you're a chem person...here it is, the perfect mattress lab. It's quiet good if I do say so myself. Physics can do springs and elevation of bed. Bio person can do bacteria found in bed with a sample of foam and relate who much bacteria they found to the location of where they found it. Hope this helps. I hated group IV...

Hey everyone... This is my first year of IB and I just started a few weeks ago, and I'm beginning to feel like I've made bad subject choices... I'm doing HL English, History and Chemistry, and SL Chinese, Maths and Biology. Although I've decided to take Chemistry HL, but I'm considering changing to Biology HL. Although both Chemistry and Biology were my best subjects last year in Year 10 (Chemistry more so), I've found Chemistry pretty hard so far (even though it's only a few weeks in!). The concepts are alright once you get the hang of it, but I'm not so sure that it would help me get a good score at the end of the IB course. Many things confuse me and in order to unders…

Solubility and Molecular Structure laboration help
by Guest Mr Canada- 5 replies

I have a slight problem with a lab report due Monday. The goal of this laboration is to determine the solubility for different substances and interpret the results in terms of intermolecular attractive forces between them. I have no idea what this means... With the laboration I've tested 6 substances in 11 different mixes to see if they solve or not. In the results I've gathered only 6 mixes have solved. Now, according to the goal set up, I need to explain why and I don't even know what the resulting solutions are called or how they are structurized. No idea then how to explain the results in terms of intermolecular attractive forces between them. Any kind of help would …
