snowday
Hey guys, sorry to get off topic but I have a big problem. I recently heard that Further Maths SL is considered more difficult than Maths HL, is this true? How is it possible that a SL course can be harder than an HL course with less classtime? And how can you possibly learn more in the SL class (as I have heard) with so much less class time? Is this just a myth? Thanks Reply

It's basically where you do ALL the HL Options instead of just one. So it's addition to HL material. You have to take Further in conjunction with HL. You can't just take Further on its own, it's got to be your Group 6 or an extra subject. It's only offered at SL because that's all there is to cover.I heard though they're getting rid of it. Apparently it's too hard or something Reply
Abu
Hey guys, sorry to get off topic but I have a big problem. Some stuff overlaps, and the stuff that doesn't you should do it in the extra class time that you have in the Further Maths SL. Further Maths SL, is an extension to Maths HL, with more difficult and complex theory.EDIT: Beat me by 16 seconds Hien! Survivor Rob
Only do SL Further Maths if you REALLY love Maths!! Just think that the one option for HL Maths that you have to do in Paper 3 in university level Maths! That means that at FM SL you would be doing ALL of the uni standard maths topics! Ruan Chun Xian
It's a very very rare class and a very small number of schools offer it. I think for my session (M06) there were less than 10 schools offering it. I've heard they're stopping the subject after M07 or something because there's not enough people taking it. The syllabus is basically all the HL Options. Basically instead of learning just one HL option in HL, you do all the options in Further. Basically not many schools offer it because the teacher would have to have specialised knowledge in all those options which is very diverse and not many do. Guest t151848p
I am taking Further Level right now...Basically like everyone has been saying..you take all of the options instead of just one...personally I think HL would bore me because in our school we learned all of the HL material last year as Juniors and Senior year is just a review on that stuffso yea i hope that answers ur question...u should get Mathematics for the international student Mathematics HL (Options) Haese and Harris PublicationsIts in Australia but you can call them up and order itits pretty niceOnly thing to worry about is the geometry, graph theory, number theory... yea the list goes on.. and on..but its not impossible! Ghanem9
i believe that the toughness of the questions also vary between FM and Math HL. and to put a simpler answer to your question as how a SL subject can have more to cover than an HL subject think of for example English A1 SL and English B HL. the A1 SL course have loads more to cover than the B HL... hope that helps Reply
