Hello , Im a IB-student in Sweden and I like to play basketball a lot...I play on a competitive level in a basketball club.. I wonder is it very hard to get a scholarship to US if you are a international student? And is it anyway you can play College basketball if you just a regular international student who is attending to the college which has basketball? Does anyone know if there is any university team in other country especially in Europe such as UK , France, Spain , italy , Greece and more? And cant you do the ACT instead of the SAT arent them the same or similar tests?

You're not going to get a scholarship if you 'like playing basketball a lot'. It doesn't work that way at all. You need to play at some sort of competitive level.

As far as I know, the system of athletic scholarship only works in the US. You are going to need some videos of yourself, some kind of reference from your current basketball coach and patience to apply to all of these universities. And of course, you're going to need SATs and transcripts and all those academic requirements.

My friend got one; he used some kind of application specialist.

Not to discourage you, but unless you're really good/play competitively, it's relatively hard to get a scholarship since you're up against a lot of local people too.

You're going to need to be fairly good at basketball to get an athletic scholarship to the US.

One of my friends got one for soccer..she's captain of her soccer team, they're top of the league, she's won many MVP awards etc and she's also won Athlete of the Year at our high school for our high school soccer team too (of which she was also captain and MVP for). They didn't even care about her IB results in the end, she received a full scholarship in February and all she needed to do was graduate to keep it.

I don't think it was too difficult for her though because there were always scouts watching her play and she actually got offers from several US colleges. She's also very good though.

Athletic Scholarships are given to the top in the country. Top 5% athletes have a chance to do that, and then later on they get picked like muffins out of a basket. Hand Picked usually.

Let me give you an example. I picked up a sports magazine and saw a section for upcoming athletes. The kid who got the swimming scholarship swam 100 meters freestyle at the pace of Olympics. Colleges are fighting over him.

A girl hasn't lost a volleyball match, with unprecedented records for the high school she goes to.

I have to say that athletic scholarships are usually given, not asked for. Like gymnastics at UF. They go to the competitions and asked the girls to come to the school, so you can see why international scholarships would be difficult. They want to see you perform, unless you already have a name made for yourself. Or something they could recognize as top notch for ya, like a representative for your country at some Europe event..At least if you are looking for a good college to go to.

Contact the coaches of the various universities you would like to get into. I would aim for Division 3 schools, but I doubt they will spend that much money on you. It is the Division one schools that will give you a full scholarship if you are good enough. But the basketball players in those schools go on to play for NBA...

Sorry I play in a professional club in Sweden after school. We play in the highest division for our age (U18) and we are very good , third place in last years championship. And does anyone know where college scouts are for the international players?
