Do you use Twitter?

I just created a twitter account today to start following "livestrongceo" (the CEO of the Lance Armstrong Foundation), since once he reaches 25,000 followers the foundation will receive a $25,000 donation.

Now that I have an account I really have no idea what to do with it. I don't see myself as one of those people who updates every day.

I do! It's fairly sporadic, but I like it. It allows me to post reflections instantly (well, as fast as I can type on a cell phone) without having to share it with half the world on Facebook. I have way too many Facebook friends that I don't want to share everything with, so a second place, like Twitter, is great.

I don't. Twitter encourages people to blab on about the most personal aspects of their life that either bore people .e. "Jane is wondering whether or not to eat a hamburger" or that they shouldn't be sharing anyways e.g. "Jane worked that stripper pole yesterday. OMG it was so fuuuuuun!" If you need to Twitter about your food choices or tell people every time you lose another layer of clothing, you have bigger issues going on.

And anyone can look at your Twitter posts (at least on Facebook, status views are restrcited to friends), and having random people Twitter-stalk me isn't on my list of to-do things, seeing as lots of people ar already Facebook-stalkers.

I made it to follow the Iranian Revolution. Stuck with it because it's fun and a great way to find out whats going on in the world without having to read long articles.

I don't even understand why you would use it :P

Seems kinda 100% pointless to me.

Well, it's better when a lot of your friends use it, because then you can tweet at each other and such, and then you can also follow people like Stephen Fry, who uses Twitter obsessively; it's just interesting. Perhaps something that just runs in the background, like a news ticker.

Just out of geeky media curiosity. Has anyone here been a Myspace user and moved to facebook after if came out? or have you just been a facebook user.

I have no clue what Twitter is, and would not use it as such. Maybe I should, since the consensus here is that it's a viable news source which is discrete and to the point. But I don't know if another socialising site is good for me, I mean I'm thinking of deleting facebook as it is, but need it for promoting reasons until I graduate Uni!

Just for your curiosity.. yea I used to have myspace and then I moved to facebook.

I think my myspace account still exists although I haven't used it for over a year. Facebook is so much better! :P Did you have myspace before, Lc?

yes I was pushed to make one by my cousin who lives in the states, who I visited in 2005 :P otherwise I wouldn't have known about it! I still have it, but it has loads of privacey settings and I don't use it anymore. never bothered deleting it! I log in form time to time and have loads of friend requests fro random Armenian losers who probably want to marry me or something :) it's funny to look at!

I don't use Twitter mainly because I don't see the point. A friend of mine got it to stalk a celeb, and then deleted it like a week later because ti was boring. I much prefer Facebook because it has apps that you can use and is much more than just posting things like "I am showering" "Going for a walk" and other pointless activities people do throughout the day.

As for the moving onto Facebook from MySpace I did not do that as I never had a MySpace account. I felt that MySpace was a place for creepers to look you up and stalk you. Facebook is probabaly not much better, but at least you can set your account to private and make it practically impossible for otehrs to find you if you so wish.

Nope, don't use Twitter, and that would be because it seems like self-centred activity. Unless you're some famous television personality, the idea that someone would want to 'follow' you is quite... er... vain. Plus I wouldn't like the idea of someone STALKING me (which is what I call it) anyway!

I have an FB account instead.
