Choi Changyu
Hi I am a student and we just started to choose our ee topics. I was thinking of writing a Math EE. Im thinking of writing about vectors. so my topic is "The role of mathematics in missile defense systems" im trying to link it with vectors, trig, and some calculus so i can come up with an equation to actually shoot down missiles given the speed and location of the enemy missile. Could you guys give any advice or comments on the research question or the idea?? Thanks Reply
kw0573
This is a solid start: it's not too difficult to answer the question and later you can raise the difficulty (or multiple layers of difficulty) if you want to showcase more mathematics. I do recommend to place the topic in a different setting where it does not involve warfare and missiles, or possibly explore alternative scenarios where different mathematical opportunities may be present. The research question need to be more specific and should accurately summarize your investigations. As you progress in the EE, be open about bringing in new perspectives or focus to the topic. 1 Reply

I really appreciate it...but how should i make the research question to be more specific if you recommend the topic to be in a broader setting??? thanks Reply

Also the "role of math in missile defense systems" is very general. "role of" is redundant and the title (or research question) is not evident in even exactly what you are investigating (it describes the setting, but the setting is not the math). A descriptive RQ helps you to keep your research on track. Reply
