Natasha
I can't seem to remember them well and have this information stay in my mind for prolonged periods of time! Reply
kw0573
Core: Only concentration-time graphs are provided. Tangent to graph is instantaneous rate of reaction. For reactants, slope, aka first derivative, is downward and is either constant or increasing aka concave up; for products, slope is upward and either constant or decreasing, aka concave down). Additional HL: There are also rate-concentration graphs. Zeroth order is horizontal line (rate independent of concentration). First order is non-horizontal straight line. Second order is quadratic; third order is cubic etc. All 1st, 2nd, 3rd ... ordered rate-concentration graphs start from the origin. IB doesn't say rate-time graphs, but if in the off chance you are asked about them, they are the first derivative functions of concentration-time graphs. In first order concentration-time graph, the half-life is constant. A lot of this can be recalled with knowledge of derivatives of functions. I would not recommend memorizing these stuff since trick questions are common. Instead you should aim to understand the meaning behind shape of the graphs to best prepare what IB will throw at you.
