OTreptow
What is the cut off year for history? For example, I want to write about Cuba's Rectification Process and Special Period. I would be writing specifically about the years 1986-1996, but I'm afraid that its too recent. Does anyone know if there is a cut off or something? Thank you! Thrashmaster
I'm not sure if it's official or not, but the number I always hear is that you shouldn't do anything more recent than 10 years ago. Your topic would be fine, but going back a few decades more is always the ideal spot. It's recent enough to be heavily documents but far enough away that we can see most if not all of the implications of the event. Something in the 1980s and 90s probably still has unseen implications, but that doesn't mean it's a bad topic. Reply
sushichan*-*
"focus on a topic or event with a cut-off date that is at least 10 years before the submission date for the investigation" - IB History official guide (First examinations 2010) Reply
