Going beyond curriculum math ia

tired

Recommended Posts

So I'm doing my ia on statistics and I realized that there is a narrow range of "math" to explore and thus I realized that only by going beyond the curriculum e.g. chi square test a bit will the ia seem more complex and developed . However, the level of the math is still commensurate with the curriculum. I was wondering if I will be penalized for this or if this will improve my ia score as I honestly do not know how to apply some of the math in the curriculum to my ia.

For example in this ia, the math goes beyond the sl syllabus but receives a high score of 5 out of 6

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Don't worry, as long as you can explain yourself clearly and does everything well then there's no reason for the IB to penalize you

tho if I remember correctly, Chi square test was part of the HL syllabus....I think

Chi squared was a part of the syllabus till 2014... currently it isn't, just to clarify.

If you choose to do an off-syllabus topic, this will not have a major influence in a rough sense as focusing on something new won't increase or decrease your chance of scoring well. How well you deal with this topic (how deeply you challenge yourself with it, examples etc.), however, will. So I suggest that find ANY topic, on or off syllabus, that truly interests you. That'll give you the ability to show good reflection and play with the topic more sincerely? I guess.

Good luck for this IA... one of the harder ones in the IB imho
