Tigerberry
In the DCP section of Biology IAs, when the raw data collected has no decimal places (eg. 5 leaves), but your average becomes 4.5 leaves...are you meant to round it up to 5 leaves then to maintain zero decimal places? Also, when doing statistical tests, one of the values I got was 0.004 - which has 3 decimal places. However, if you round it to the nearest whole number, you get 0 which isn't very meaningful. I know in physics/chem, you can use scientific notation or maintain the significant figures but I don't think it's going to work for me having my data in scientific notation (like 5 x 10^0 leaves?) Could someone please help? Thanks! Reply
whatislife
Hello Australia! Well as for the average, round it to 5. And as for the statistics test, it depends on which one it is, e.g. t-test, standard deviation, and each statistics test has their own criteria that you have to follow to check components of your data, i.e. if you can reject the null hypothesis or if you can rely on your mean value, etc. Usually you leave those decimal places! (mainly because it's separate from your raw data) 1 Reply
