- Microsoft Word 2007 makes typing equations very easy (Good for mathematics, biology, physics and chemistry)

- Microsoft Excel 2007 produces aesthetically pleasing graphs :D . Also, it provides error bars, etc. (Good for the sciences + math)

- Graphmatica and Graph are good for Math

Powertoys Calculator from Microsoft. Goes damn accurate and useful for several portfolios

Excel, good for recording your grades- so you know what you are getting and where you need to work just a little bit more if you do not want to miss 5 by 2% or so.

Microsoft Word 2007- much easier for formatting especial magazine style. Also has math functions on it so good for writing portfolios on and thus superior to older Words.

InDesign/ Photoshop dead important if you do Art HL.
