Hey everyone,

I've been struggling with some of the sequences and series work, so far the stuff I've been able to pick up how to use

U1 to get U2, r (for geometric progressions) and d (for arithmetic progressions)

However I don't understand how you would use other information to get U1 and thus find r/d

My example is:

For a convergent geometric series U2 = 8/5 and the sum of the series = 10

Show that there are two possible series and give the first term and common ratio in each case

(I realize this is in the text book, but I don't understand it, can someone please show me how I would get to an answer?)

Thanks in advance

Andrew
