qwert22
Hi, since IB Math Standard Level is divided Mathematics, IB, Standard Level, Part 1 and Mathematics, IB, Standard Level, Part 2, which marks do the universities get. Do they only get your IB Exam score or do the tests in those courses matter? Reply
Summer Glau
Universities get your marks in both courses (Advanced Functions and Calculus). As far as I know, your tests count towards your Ontario mark and that will be your mark before you write the IB exam. Before the exam, you'll get an IB grade prediction from 1-7. When you get your IB results back, your actual IB grade (not your prediction) is converted into a percentage grade which replaces the grade before your IB exam. For example, if you get a 7, your converted grade would be anywhere from 96%-100% in math. What determines the difference between getting 96% and 100% is how you did in the class before your exam. If you are at or near the top of the class, your converted mark will be higher (ex. you get 99%) than if you were near or at the bottom (ex. you get 96%) and/or if you were predicted lower than 7. The mark conversion scale is the same for all Ontario schools. However, determining the difference between getting 96% and 99%, for example, may be different from school to school. qwert22
Thanks for your fast reply but I am still a bit confused. So they get your tests marks and your IB score or does the IB score replace what you have gotten in class as a final mark for math?I mean so they get both your Ontario grades and your IB grades or only IB? And ultimately, if the former is true, which do they look at more Ontario or IB that determines their decision whether they accept you or not? Summer Glau
I believe your mark gets replaced after your IB exam (this is what I've been told anyways ) Universities can see both but apparently they consider your Ontario marks more than your IB grades. 1 Reply
qwert22
Oh, because I thought they used the one to your advantage. Like you get 70 in regular math course then get 7 which is converted to 96, then they would consider your application with that 96. I wish IB made that more clearer to us... Summer Glau
Yes, you're right, that's what they do. 96% is your converted Ontario percentage after the IB exam which universities consider, not the mark you had before the exam. Simply put, they see your IB grade of 7 and your converted grade of 96%, not the 70% you had before the exam. Reply
qwert22
Ok, after a year since my original post. I can confirm that this is the case. I entered exams with 80s, then got 7 on the exam and in the end, the ib coordinator at my school replaced that original mark to a 97. Reply
CkyBlue
Yeah, the mark is converted again after the exam. I ended with a 92 on my final report card in grade 11, and after my exam, my transcript says that its 96 . Low end 7 FTW!! Reply
