Canadian applying to UK?

Hi,

As a Canadian citizen entering my last year of IB diploma and high school - what requirements do I need to take to apply to the UK for med?

Do I need to take some sort of entrance exam (similar to how Americans have the SAT's)? If so, what is it called?

And do UK universities consider the entire transcript? Or just your grade 11/12 year?

Thanks for your help!

1. In terms of reputation most Medicine courses are similar and the university you choose won't affect your employment prospects much. Therefore the requirements are similar as well - most universities want around 37 or more IB points and may have requirements for subjects. You should check the webpages of your prospective universities (see, for example, the Guardian university league tables for comparisons) for their requirements. You may need to do the BioMedical admissions test(BMAT) when applying to some universities. Please note that if you are applying for 2011 entry the deadline of applications is quite soon - on the 15th of October! You also need to obtain a reference, predicted grades and write a personal statement, as well as take care of university-specific requirements.

2. You do not need to put any grades other than your predicted ones in the application - if you do they will consider them for the duration of your schooling.

Most universities in the UK require the UKCAT, the elite require BMAT. If you want to get into a medical school in the UK. You need to apply for the UKCAT via the British consulate in Canada like NOWWWWW !!!!!!!! BMAT you apply for in October like aforementioned and you take it in November. All in all good luck with applying. It is very difficult for internationals to get into med school here. Great thing you're doing IB I suppose. If you want more info PM me.
