Yvetta
I am going to study AI in the university. I wonder which option will be more suitable for me? Tbh, calculus is relatively easier to me but my teacher told me that statistic is more useful for AI. I could not decide it!! Vioh
I'm not sure what you mean exactly by "AI", but I assume it is artificial intelligence. If that is the case, then I'd say that neither IB calculus nor statistics would particularly be useful for AI, at least not any direct way. What I meant by this is that no AI class will be directly based upon the knowledge that you gain from IB maths. So I think it's a bit inaccurate to say that statistics is more "useful" for AI. Having said that, you should be aware that before you'll be able to take any AI class, you need to learn about the basics of computer science (like coding, data structure, algorithms, etc.). But in order to learn these, you need to have basic mathematical knowledge (especially calculus, linear algebra, and discrete maths). Some universities may require students to learn about statistics, but it's not often the case. Calculus is absolutely important though. So I'd say that calculus would be better for you. Which option is easier? I don't know to be honest. I took neither of them. But for me, statistics has always been my weakness. I love "mathematics", but I can't really say the same about statistics By the way, are those 2 options the only ones that you can do at your school? Because the Discrete Maths option is also very useful for computer science; I'd recommend you to take it. 1 Reply
