kRYST4L
My question reads as "To what extent did the media's portrayal of the Vietnam war lead to the withdrawal of the United States?". Do you guys think this will be a good question? Also I would appreciate a few tips regarding finding resources. Thanks a lot in advance. IB_taking_over
that should be a good question. As far as resources go, the library is always a good place to start. Also, online databases are typically helpful. Generally speaking you want to avoid using wikipedia and the like in academic research. Reply
ellie
You should definitely use some articles, better yet if you can dig up some news' segments and stuff from that time -- primary sources are always good. Perhaps divide it into two parts -- first, media portrayal; second, reasons for withdrawal, that way it'll be clearer. Good luck! Reply
Xiaomi
Eh, it's good like previous people commented, but it sounds weird. Tweak it, like "TWE did the media's portrayal of the Vietnam war affect withdrawal of the US? I just find this version sounds better and makes room for more arguments. hopefulundertone
I wrote my extended essay on students in the anti-war movement and came across a lot of information about the media's roll. If you can, visit a local university and spend a couple of days or so just looking at what they have in their history libraries. A lot of my sources came from a university in my city. JSTOR is an online storage for past and present journals, which I depended heavily on, as well. As part of incorporating ToK into my history class, my school required us to record an interview of someone that went through a major historical event. The person I interviewed was a Vietnam war veteran that talked in part about how the media affected public opinion, which lead to poor treatment of the veterans returning home.
