Gannon260
Hello! I've been working on my EE lately and it's on the effect of different gases like Carbon monoxide, Carbon Diooxide, Air, Oxygen, nitrogen on the absorbance properties of a hemoglobin solution. I plan to buy lyophilised hemoglobin online. I've also read the safety concerts about the EE and that it doesn't allow bodily fluids. Will my EE topic be red flagged even though lyophilised hemoglobin has almost 0 risk of infecting someone? kw0573
Hemoglobin solution oxidizes with oxygen quite readily. Because extreme care is needed to handle hemoglobin solution, it's best that you pick something else, and no bodily fluids. Reply
Gannon260
The project is looking at how hemoglobin changes due to gases like oxygen, so oxidation is a part of it the experiment. Bodily fluids of course is the main issue. They are not the only coloured/colored fluids that can be oxidized. For safety purposes, I recommend against working with CO.
