kyoran
Is anyone doing any languages off campus, as in not offered at your school?I took French B SL in IB year1, but it was too difficult for me and switched to Korean B HL.My question is then, all i need to do is the orals and take the exam rite?I found a tutor to "teach" me Korean and mark the orals, mock exams etc...I know i shouldn't be taking langauge b at my native language, but they didnt offer A2 Korean and i had no time for A1(doing world lits etc) Reply
Ruan Chun Xian
Well as long as you have a teacher to conduct the oral exam for you and your school approves then it's fine. There have been cases like this at my school before, when they had outside teachers come in to just teach 1 student the language that we don't have a teacher for. Obviously that student had to pay extra fee but the point is that yes, it's doable. Reply
luami
hehe I speak mandarin outside our school, our school does allow you to take languages the school doesn't offer, but you'll have to self-teach, I think one of my friends is doing her's on mandarin A1 HL...what a toughie Reply
BIO-AQUA
I don't think they allow a self-taught candidate to study an A1 subject at HL .. SL only. Reply
luami
i'm not 100% sure if she's taking HL or SL..doing it as A1 and as HL would be pretty hard if it was self-taught.. Reply
Ruan Chun Xian
Bio is right. Self taught is only available at SL. Apparently the orals are harder than our normal A1. Or so I've heard. Reply
chobap
A couple of my friends here in Korea are taking Japanese with an online teacher, and they actually went to Japan to do their IOPs and stuff. Reply
Bishup
You do your IOPs and IOCs to a tape recorder and send them off so why on earth did your peers need to go to the respective country, that's ridiculous. In fact self-taught orals are easier because you choose your own passages and questions. Reply
