Elite X-Naut
Hey guys, my topic for my IA is how the concentration of hydrochloric acid affects its rate of reaction with magnesium. The teacher said it was okay but I am unsure on whether or not it's appropriate since it's really simple. Should I still go ahead with my topic or will I be penalized if I do so? kw0573
I have performed this exact lab personally, but not for the IA. You can use many forms of magnesium solids for this one (look up online to see what I mean). It's not the most straightforward lab to perform or to analyze, but there are some tricks you can easily look up. You need some special apparatus or modified flasks. 1 Reply
kw0573
IMPORTANT: This could be a dangerous lab so make sure the concentrations and flasks you are using will not exceed the maximum pressure allowed. Have your teacher check your calculations carefully before you proceed. Reply
Elite X-Naut
Thank you, I will be keeping that in mind. I guess this lab wasn't as easy as I had imagined. Reply
