Hey, I'm a 1IB student and I'm struggling with the EE, TOK and IAs organization. I would love to create an study group for keep every subject undercontrolled. I take: HL: Maths AA, Chemistry, English B SL: Spanish A, Physics, History

Since this is an antilog equation, my teacher said that propagating concentration uncertainties from pH is beyond the scope of IB Chemistry syllabus so I would have to do another way. He said that I should " calculate half the range of the pH values for each variation." What does this mean???? For context, let's say my pH is 2.13 +/- 0.05 and my H+ concentration is 7.41E-3. How would I get the uncertainty of it? thank you so much 🙂

I was planning to do my HL chemistry database IA on the relationship between corrosion rate and pH level such as the difference between corrosion rate of steel when reacted with ocean water and rain water, but my teacher told me it is too simple and the answer is obvious. Are there any other factors I can or should add to my paper to make it complex enough? Or should I change my topic completely?

I'm an SL Chemistry student and I've been struggling to find an idea that is easy enough to investigate in order to obtain interpretable results and difficult/complex enough to show further critical thinking and thorough application of chemistry. My initial idea was to use a simulation to figure out how the electronegativity of a nucleophile (such as the hydroxide ion, cyanide ion and ammonia) affects its bond length when it undergoes a SN1 reaction with a tertiary halogenoalkane. However, after writing up the intro, hypothesis etc. and moving onto the actual simulation work, I could figure ou

How many marks are uncertainties worth in the chemistry ia?
big00fdotcom posted a topic in Chemistry
How many marks are uncertainties worth in the chemistry ia? If I were to not include them at all how many marks would I lose? If I did them incorrectly how many marks would I lose?- 1 reply

Hello! I wanted to compare natural pH indicators (ex, red cabbage and beets) with the standard ones. I was thinking of just doing pH titrations to compare the results of the natural vs standard. Along with that, I was going to produce the pH curves and calculate the pKa value as well as the equivalence points. Is this good enough for an IA? Should I add anything?

I currently have an idea for my chemistry IA, but I can't find any previous lab work done on this specific topic. My topic is: What are the effects of the rate of reaction of sodium bicarbonate when combined with different pH levels of acids OR To what extent is the amount of CO2 collected from a sodium bicarbonate reaction affected when combined with different pH levels of acidity. Which topic should I pick or should I just scrap what I have and find another experiment.

Hey guys, my topic for my IA is how the concentration of hydrochloric acid affects its rate of reaction with magnesium. The teacher said it was okay but I am unsure on whether or not it's appropriate since it's really simple. Should I still go ahead with my topic or will I be penalized if I do so?

Hey guys So I'm about to find a topic for my chemistry IA, but I am thoroughly lost. Chemistry is not my strongest subject, but I feel comfortable and good at Rate of reaction, collision theory and equilibrium. I need some inspiration in regards to finding a topic that is at an appropriate level for getting a decent grade, but also for me to understand what I'm doing. Do you have any good ideas? My teacher says that it should relate to my everyday life, soooo.
