ibcda
I've heard many Canadian universities allow IB diploma students to skip a first year in the Universities if they get an enough grade for it.Is that really possible? What universities in Canada allow this? (a list would be grateful. thanks) Reply
Ammar Ashoor
If you meet specific requirements (e.g 30 IB points) they will allow you to skip the foundation. My friend is going to Ottawa I think, you can ask me any questions about it and I'll forward them to him. Reply
by.andrew
Highly dependent on the program. Some schools like McGill (the only one I know of) force you to use IB credits and take upper year courses. My program (UofT Engineering) doesn't even allow IB transfer credits. UofT Arts/Science does give out Transfer credits if you received a 5+ on an HL. Reply
IbTrojan
But they warn you that if you DO decide to use your IB points towards your uni credits, it wouldn't count towards your GPA. So I know quite a few IB students decided not to to do it so they could boost their GPA by taking a course they've already learned about. And yes, as by.andew mentioned, it's very dependent on the university and program. You'd have to look into the university/universities you're interested in and check their requirements for IB students. And if they don't have information about transfer credits on their sites, then contact them. Reply
Schrodinger's CAS
Almost all major universities in Canada allow IB credit transfers. Although many of them require HL for the subject(s) and a minimum grade of 5-7 depending on the university. As others have said, see if you can find info on their websites, I know that McGill clearly states the IB requirements for specific courses. But other universities like USASK does not display that information on their website, so you would have to contact them. Reply
Tom Hiddleston
Most only take the IB courses only if you are taking the HL version of the course. SL isn't usually accepted because it's not to the complete university extent of knowledge. Reply
