ibtired97
Hello, I've just recently been given the Math IA information and examples with no real help from my teacher (who doesn't really know what they're doing and have only been doing IB for 2 years). I'm decent at math when I have a teacher and can learn from websites too. Quite frankly I'm confused how to search for a topic and make sure its on the syllabus. I'm very interested in cardiology and researched into possibly doing my IA on the fourier series. I saw that this is only suggested for HL, but I'm very interested in it. I was hoping that anyone could let me know whether I should attempt to do something with fourier series or something else and possibly what I could do. I'm really interested in anything in the human body (in biology and want to be a doctor) and am in Calc AB now if that helps. Thanks for the help! 1 Reply
FrozenUnicorn
Hi, We have the same situation. My math teacher started teaching Math for IB when we started IB (I'm in my second year, right now). Math internal assessment is quite confusing. When I first saw the examples, I said to myself that this will be an easy one. But I was wrong. It has to be to a certain criterion that you have to follow. And one of my friend is interested in Biology as well. I think she decided to do something with the body cell (I'm not really sure, because I don't take Biology). But I guess the teacher asked her to change into something else. I guess it was because the topic is too broad. I think if you would like to do something related to Biology, you have to find a topic which is not too broad and try to compare a HL and SL internal assessment to find the difference between them. I think it should be fine if you do it first, in order to see if it reaches the Higher Level, and see the product soon and you can change some things. Julio17
I was in the same situation but I decided do do mine on Comparing the different prices of football players around the world, plotting those in a graph and therefore modelling a function for the prices, as well as getting the prices for the last 20 years and seeing the rate of increase of the players, so i found a function for this and therefore made predictions for the future... Was this a too simple or weak topic ? Reply
