hellothere:)
Hey guys! I'm wondering, for the the question "explain the effects of neurotransmitter on human behavior" how exactly are we suppose to explain? I understand that explain means give reasons and causes, but I just don't know how to answer this question. (Our teacher didn't went over command terms in detail even though I know they are super important lol) For example, I know that serotonin causes depression, and there are plenty of studies to show that, but I think I need to go deeper than that to "explain the effects". For the hormone question it is easier because for testosterone I can say things like testosterone is linked with aggressive behavior because males have the need to fight over mates and protect their young (evolutionary explanation). However, for neurotransmitters I cant quite explain WHY serotonin causes depression. Do I have to use biological terms instead of just concepts? Any help is greatly appreciated! citizenoftheuniverse
Here is a website that has an essay outline in answer to that question.http://ibguides.com/psychology/notes/using-one-or-more-examples-explain-the-effects-of-neurotransmission-on-human-behaviourWhen I did my exam, for this learning outcome I memorized the Kasamatsu and Hirai study, with the neurotransmiter serotonin, which caused hallucinations in the monks. That study is a classic one so I would advise you use that one instead if you find it simpler and the impact on behavior is simpler to explain.
