Case studies, case studies, case studies. As my teacher likes to say: if you can explain all the theory you'll be halfway there, but be able to apply it and that's where true talent lies.

Why? Because on pretty much every single markscheme she's gotten her hands on, the examiners will award half the available amount of points if you can give a generic definition/describe a general situation. What gets you the other half of the available points is relating those over-arching scenarios to the specific situation in front of you.
